Hey all, I will be getting a Marzocchi Roco soon to replace my old, blown out Fox Vanilla RC. I hear that it rides very plush, but its tuneable to pedal fairly well too.

I have yet to get my hands on it, so while I wait, I would like to figure out how to tune it just right. I have read the posts on adjusting the low oil level etc... any other tips for a nice setup to pedal UP and down hills? Run higher air pressure? Higher compression dampening? I have a 650lb spring to put on it...

If you are looking for a shock that is going to pedal uphill you may want to look elsewhere. The Rocco is basically the only shock that doesnt have some sort of platform design in it, which is exactly how it was designed. It was meant to bob and bounce and absorb everything in the way when you are going downhill. You may want to look at a Fox DHX with the ProPedal, or a Swinger with the SPV.

Well, its going on a 2001 stinky primo: 5" front and rear so I need a 7.875x2.0 shock-

the DHX only comes as an air shock in those measurements as far as I know, and it doesn't look like Fox makes a Vanilla RC anymore. not that interested in shelling out the money for a swinger.

I've always ridden my bike more on the freeride side, and i'm willing to give up some pedaling performance. So I am just going to try to tune the Roco to pedal as well as possible. I'll let you all know how it works out.. and i'd still like to hear some input too, if anyone's got anything to say.

Ok I have been running one on my Demo 9 for months now, it pedals just fine. If you were able to ride your stinky around with the old Fox Vanilla RC you will have no problem with the Roco on your bike. Please take a look in the threads linked below as there are some things worth knowing in them. Read them through and pay attention to my answers. There is also a volume adjustment in the resevoir to change progression. The Roco is amazing when setup and maintained correctly and it is easy to do so. Have fun!

Thanks, thats what I was thinking- its good to hear some confirmation. And I've been checking out your tech tips: sounds nice and easy. I can't wait to have a marzocchi on both ends of my bike!
