I'm planning on building up a 24" rear wheel with a Rohloff Speedhub. All of the documentation from Rohloff says to only use a single cross pattern. I'm worried that would build a weak wheel.

Does anyboy here have experience with Rohloff wheel builds? Should I just go ahead a build 2 cross even though Rohloff suggests not to do it?

When the flange diameter is that big, 1 cross makes more sense. What's truly important in a wheel is not the cross, but the actual angle that the spokes pull on the hub. Rohloff probably suggests 1 cross because it brings you an angle close to that of a 3 cross on a normal hub.

The wheel should be pretty stiff even with one cross. On a 24" Sun Singletrack rim the spokes would be 200mm. That's pretty dang short. Also, the wheel will have zero dish.

Yep, best to go with what Rohloff recommends.
