Romic vs. El Jefe on Turner RFX

Hey, I've got a Turner RFX that I use mostly for heavy trail riding. I do some drops, but usually no more than 4'. Right now I'm running a Romic that I'm happy with, but I've got a chance to pick up a brand new Stratos El Jefe SR. for super cheap.

Any opinions on a Jefe for general trail riding? I know it can handle drops, but how does it (or an Avalanche, for that matter) pedal?

Thanks!

Well, since the Avy and El Jefe are more or less the same; I'll relate my experience with the Av. It's super sensitive, but if you crank up the low-speed compression, it really really pedals well. As long as you can adjust the low-speed comp. on the Jefe (i think the jr. doesn't have it), I wouldn't worry about pedaling.

However, it's SUPER heavy. The Jefe is marginally bigger than the Av, which weighs about 2.5 lbs so keep that in mind. Even with a Ti spring, my Avy weighs more than my steel-sprung 5th Element, which is no lightweight.

Personally I wouldn't bother with it unless you're blowing the Romic a lot - some people seem to go thru Romics like crazy, others don't.....

btw - where in NOVA are you? I don't think i've seen another RFX out in the 'Shed yet....

I have a romic, and i have never had a problem with them, there a straight down traditional shock. If you ask me they feel like a fox, except they actually WORK, where a fox doesnt.. there oober sensative and very active. and lots cheaper, also,
consider this, if you buy the el jefe and it breaks, good luck geting their phone number.... aka their service sucks balls.

DßR and Mack, thanks for the info. And, no, I've never blown my Romic (of course it's only a few months old itself... had an RC before). I'm just always looking to try different pieces-parts and, like I said before, this Jefe I'm talking about I can pick up cheap. Something to think about...

As for Watershed/Gambrill I get up there as much as I can... but with a two year old kid now it's hard for me to get the ride time plus an hour drive each way from my house in Reston. No doubt it's the best riding I've done around here, but it's tough logistically. Is that where you ride mostly around DC?

yeah man, we rip the Shed pretty much every weekend. Less so now that race season has started, but offseason that's pretty much the only place I ride. Nowhere else has enough of an adrenaline dose....:p
