Been looking around for a real DH rig. Just wanted to hear some opinions on the Rotec moto. I knew a guy who rode one a few years ago but he moved to a different bike a while ago. The bike looks ultra clean and simple. Any knowledge would be good.

great bikes. A totally different feel, and very good at high speed/big hit courses. Not much for a FR/North Shore bike. The new design made up for the flaws in the older design. I'd love to get one.

Are you looking at one of the old Rotecs or the newer design? The old one is an absurd boat for most people...the newer ones were pretty cool when I gave one a quick pedal around in Utah last fall. Smaller, lighter, yadda yadda.

the new moto looks like a solid rig. its got the mount for the hopy steering damper. stock with floating brake and some other nice componets with it dont have the specs memorized but it looks to be a very race oriented bike. with some trail riding in mind.

I have a biased view(cuase Sully is a friend) but besides that, I really like them , they feel fun and pedal well. not very heavy but good and strong. Also the Rotec riders really loe there bikes...and rip on em'! I really recomend checking them out, that bike with a 5ht and the manitou fork with SPV(sherman?) is cool!.... and Sully will help you with what ever you need..hes a good guy! :thumb:

I've ridden the new one, and I really like it, especially since the chainstays have been shortened to a normal DH length. It felt light enough, and it seemed to do everything well except pedal (even with a 5th element, but I don't know what the spring rate was, so I wouldn't take that observation too seriously).

Tully, do you have an idea what the CS length on the newer bikes is? The geo. chart doesn't say.

I don't like em. Rode one a year or so ago and it was LOOOONG (unmanuallably so), pedaled like absolute crap (bobbed more than a thai hooker with a schlong in her mouth), generally didn't like the geometry. I really don't understand the idea of a BB-centric pivot, it offers a lot of disadvantages and bugger all benefits.

Was that the old one or the new one? New ones are normal wheelbases, 44, 45, or 46 in. depending on size. And the new one I pedalled was pretty good with the 5th Element on it, but then again, it might just have been oversprung.

my arrow has 4.5 inches of travel and a concentric pivot, same location as the rotec, and it pedals like crap. I don't have a fifth ele though, so it might help, but I've never been happen with the way that it pedaled. More bounce than my 8" travel schwinn.

I can't vouch for the rotec as I've never ridden one, but if I had the option of a concentric pivot again, I don't think I would take it.

I'm pretty un-PC a lot of the time, but really now. :nope:

Rotec's are cool bikes, Sully has a new model coming out at Interbike this year which will have clearance for larger tires out back, and additional enhancements like 1.5 steer tube as well. Cory's right, he's a good guy and cares about his bikes, riders, and company. He also owns GRC Components.

Your face.
Poor Sulley. That company seems like it will forever be stuck with the long wheelbase stereotype, even though its no longer true.

The new bike looks very promisign, that for sure. As for the current ride, all the old rules don't apply anymore. The one i sat on at the last interbike show wasn't long at all, although a parking lot test ain't exactly the place to comment on how it rides.

Just wait til the show in Vegas. Sully will have some sweet new stuff that you guys are gonna love. I won't drop any hints now because I'm not sure that's cool with him. I'll make sure to post plenty of pics.

It was the one without the linkage, whichever that is.

thaflyinfatman,

If you rode one without linkage and it was long (manual-wise) you rode an early 2003 prototype in a large, with the longer CS and different geometry, spring rate, etc.

I'd say it was B.C Place since you last rode it or their abouts??

04's are different and I'm quite sure you haven't ridden the newer model unless you've ridden one at Whistler this year.

All the same, can't compare what was then a 3 month ol 2003 proto to a 2004 production piece. Not the same animal.

New 05's will be a new animal all together again.

it's nice looking, and the rear end is identical to a straight 8, linkage and all...but I'm so scared of a concentric now....hmm...maybe the shock will help...maybe I should to that on mine...

How does having a concentric chainstay linkage effect the lawill design?

And yes... that does look like the old redline.

I've got last year's Rotec - the one without the new rear end - and its hands-down the fastest bike I've ever ridden. Well worth the money I paid for it - every penny.
