What's the big deal with RSS feeds? Tons of sites have 'em, mainly those that update often. How is this any better than just opening up the website?

An RSS feed can provide a constant list of recent updates in a condensed format, so you can click if you're interested or ignore it if you're not.

I don't usually use RSS feeds but they're great for people that want to keep track of a lot of news/blog sites without opening all of them all the time. Just track the stuff of interest and don't waste your time or bandwidth to see if there's an update, or see if the most recent update is interesting.

I subscribe to about 60 different RSS feeds. In my aggregator I can skim headlines and pick what I want to read in a matter of a few minutes, whereas if I had to go to 60 different sites to check for updates it would take all day. I also get immediate notification of updates, so if something is time sensitive I find out right away. Very handy.
