In a somewhat related militia note.

Minuteman founded got touchy

Prosecutors said Simcox preyed on the 5-year-old girl, who was the friend of one of his daughters, during scheduled parental visits with his children. He also showed the victim explicit films, prosecutors said.

“This young girl had the courage to come forward to stop the abuse and by doing so revealed his predatory behavior,” County Attorney Bill Montgomery said in a statement. “With this verdict we have been able to seek justice for this victim.”

The hear guys just need to move to the east coast where there is little federal land and bask in the glory of free market real estate.

“Nevada has sold off 99 percent of its original state land holdings"

Uh, I wanna see where they got that from. Its 'state land holdings' must not have been jack shit because the vast majority of real estate in NV is BLM or USFS managed/owned.

That statement is direct opposition to what's kinda widely known about NV. The US said "here, grab what you want", and the feds took ownership/responsibility for everything no one wanted. Which is most of it.

Also just remember. ALEC is the same thing as the 'citizenry' because ALEC is made up of and supported by the people™

people™ being Koch Industries in this case.

I found this article, which does not state a source either, but is in much the same vein.
But once federal lands become state property, they could be sold to cover budget shortfalls, which Western states have done often. Nevada, for instance, has sold more than 95 percent of its state-trust land, and earlier this year Utah sold several thousand acres of its state lands

........

So, how did so many states just happen to start thinking about transferring federal lands and/or selling state lands the past few years? Was it just coincidence?

Hardly. Advocacy groups like Americans for Prosperity and the American Legislative Exchange Council — better known as just ALEC — arrogantly view land as little more than natural reservoirs for profit. ALEC is best known for drafting cookie-cutter legislation, and then holding conventions to explain the purpose and nuances of its pre-fab bills to invited lawmakers from across the country.

The politicians then bring this ghost-written legislation home, insert their name and the state’s name in the appropriate blanks, and claim it as their own idea. To see ALEC’s model legislation that’s driving many of the public-land sale efforts, check out its “Disposal and Taxation of Public Lands Act” at www.alec.org/model-legislation/disposal-and-taxation-of-public-lands-act/. Notice that word “disposal.” That’s not a word evoking respect and reverence for the land.
Then I found this
Original Trust Land Grant:
2.7 million acres1

Current Trust Land Holdings:
3,000 acres

Trust Beneficiaries:
K-12 Public Schools
So basically, selling out the kids so Koch industries can make a couple bucks fracing Nevada ground water to death.

Even more offensive, is the web page for the Nevada Division of State Lands. And I don't mean because of it's webpage layout.

The State Land Office serves as the "real estate" agency of the State

Kinda what I thought.

Original Trust Land Grant:

2.7 million acres1

That's paltry

About 4%

Nevada State:

Total Land Base: 70,762,880 acres
Forest Service (NFS) Acres: 5.9 million
BLM Acres: ~ 48 million
Population: 2,495,529

Pretty soon Nevada won't own shit but state parks.
But still the ALEC presence is pathetic when you start hearing these dipshit elected 'representatives' spouting word for word from what's basically a script. That state is nothing without casino revenue. They're not smart enough to tax the mining interests what they should. And mining is everywhere. When the breeze is right, you can taste the lithium being churned up by the new tesla battery factory claims outside of Reno. That's a big (real) reason they put it there. And reno is bending over backwards for them in joy.

Well, not to be pedantic, but the point is, how much of originally state owned land has the state sold off. The point isn't how much land the feds control, it's how much of it, if given back to the state of Nevada, or any other industry friendly western state, is liable to be sold off to the highest bidder. History suggests quite a bit of it.

Right, it's just a relief to me who visits the beautiful barren unpopulated wasteland that is NV, that they can only fuck it up so much :D

Places like Idaho however: Name change to GlenBeckistan (brought to you by Carl's Jr) within 5 years. Mark my words. That entire state is all about retaking control and giving it back to the people. The rich people who they are not.

True enough. Having spent many hours driving through many different portions of it, can confirm that much of it is shite.

Valley of Fire State Park might have been nice if it hadn't been 1000000 degrees.

Oooh man, NV is rad. Looks like a wasteland from the 4 highways that go through but there's goodness up in them thar hills.

Last weekend for instance: (about 46mph FYI)

Mountain ranges everywhere with hot springs, fern lined drainages that look like mini rain forests, some of the clearest night skies you can get anywhere in the US. And nobody around anywhere to give a flying fuck what you do. Good skiing too.

You just have to get away from the two crappy population centers. I consider that state a treasure.

Incidently, on one end of that lakebed was a recently staked claim by the secondary LLC formed by Tesla for lithium mining rights. I've been going out there for years and that just popped up since last September. So even federal 'ownership' as protection is kind of a joke. It's not like state or federal lands need to be owned to be exploited. Not by a long shot. This whole push is laughable. But they'll get bumfuck morons like the bundys to support it on idealistic principles.

Hell yeah.

Still wouldn't live there.
Me neither :D

Looks like a good way to do it. You should see the terrain you can get to and the loops you can put together on a KTM trail bike.

But visiting (and preserving), I'm all about it. About a dozen friends and I literally rented out a town a few years ago in march to go sled skiing. It entailed getting an inn keeper to open up and bring groceries but during that time, we brought the population to like 14. So good.

Not wanting to be overly pedantic... :busted:

There maybe something in the name that would give you an idea of the conditions.
You may have to parse it a bit, as it may not be too obvious at first glance.

Just trying to help :D

All of southern Nevada is hot though, not just Valley of Fire. :dead: I figured the rock color had something to do with it.

Sorry about the photo quality. Some kind of goober in the shutter of a prior camera.

I have no idea where I am
More Bundy stupidity

Ryan Bundy previously complained that he had not been permitted to wear Mormon religious garments or carry a firearm while jailed.

“My rights are being violated. My right to life is being violated. All of my First Amendment rights are being violated. My right to freedom of religion is being violated,” Ryan Bundy argued. “My Second Amendment rights are being violated. I never waived that right. My Fourth Amendment rights are being violated.”

They are listening to my recorded phone calls from jail!

Ryan Bundy believes his monitored jail calls are being shared with the government so prosecutors can learn his trial strategy and are "intrusions into his privacy,'' his standby legal counsel Lisa Ludwig told the court.
Man, you would think they would know your rights in the jailhouse.

He held up a large envelope that he said jail staff had opened, even though it was marked "legal mail'' on the outside. A book on federal criminal rules of procedure and codes has been denied to him three times in jail, he said.
