Running 2.25" stroke shock on 2001 Kona Stinky??

Has anyone successfully run a 2.25" stroke shock on a 2001 Kona Stinky? The bike comes standard w/ a 2" stroke shock, but it seems like a .25" extra of stroke should cause the linkage to hit the frame.

I ask simply because finding a 2" stroke shock is damn near impossible to find but 2.25" stroke shocks are everywhere.

i have looked into this myself

i have a 17" stinky i took some cardboard and measured out peices one 7.875" and the other 5.650" (7.875-2.25)and went from there
*i found the front derailure cable routing to hit my tire ...this could be ground off or run a 24" tire
also the seatcolar had to be flipped around and it was so close. a rubber stop or a tube wrapped up there might be something to look at but you need to test this yourself

also at the last .3" of travel you get a hugely falling rate desing so you would blow through the last bit of travel very quickly...

i also thought of putting in some little spacers but i am not sure how you could get them to stay inplace...anyways you only get like .62" more travel and the chance to smack your frame...

Cool, thanks for the reply. I guess I'll just stick to the 2" stroke shock search. Don't really want to hassle w/ all of those variables.

isnt 7.875 the length of the 2" stroke shock? so if you got a 2.25" stroke then it would probably be a 8.25" fully extended (at least thats what most shock seem to be), that would give it a similar bottom out position to standard shock but with higer static bb height.

They (being every shock manufacturer I've seen) make a 7.875" i-2-i with a 2.25" stroke shock.

ah yes, it would appear so, never really looked into it but only ever seen second hand ones in the longer lengths. I see you can get a 5th in 8.00*2.25, perhaps this size (not suggesting you buy one as ive only ever used fox so no experience) might work better on your frame if you could find one.

Cheers,
Rich

Instead of changing your shock why don't you change your linkage plates. Here in the UK we have BETD and in the States there is Dangerboy, both do 7" conversions for the Stinky. I bought an 8.5" Vanilla RC for my 2003 Stinky and the chainstays fouled the bottom bracket shell when fully extended. I had no option but to get te shock shortend. Trust me, go with the plates.
