My Azonic Outlaws are "opened up" for a thru axle front and rear. Somehow, someway, a small amount of rust has developed where the axle goes through.

I'm pretty darn sure that this doesn't hurt anything, but it bugs me. Is there a preferred way to clean this up? I was thinking about cleaning it up with some very fine steel wool and then wiping it down with some Tri-Flow.

Is there a better way to do this?

Use a thin layer of grease instead of triflow (you don't want seepage onto your rotors and grease will last longer). Otherwise you're right in the assumption that the surface rust you see isn't really damaging anything.
