Sam Hill, out of nowhere, piloted his Specialized Demo to first place at Mont Sainte-Anne to capture the Rainbow Stripes. Stevie Smith of Canada had an amazing run, and despite a near crash took second. Full results inside...

An amazing day of racing has been put to rest, and all the racing fiends can do now is wait until next year while deliberating about the track conditions. Had Hurricane Earl not reared it's somewhat hideous head in Quebec, we would have undoubtedly seen a much different race, but as it stands Sam took advantage of his start position, and was the fastest man of the day.

Aside from the underdog Sam Hill winning (never thought I'd type that), the biggest story of the day was Stevie Smith. After a few seasons of being on the brink of performing on par with the top dogs, the Canadian brought his A-game to Mont Sainte-Anne. Finishing in second is his top result at the World Cup/Championship level, and it comes after finishing 5th and 7th in the final two World Cups. His run seemed flawless until his near dismount that could have had a nasty result had he not held on for dear life. Pure athletic genius from the Canadian! Perhaps it was the mustache that propelled his bike and body so fast down the mountain!

Full men's results.

Tracy Moseey took the women's title, with last year's champ Emmeline Ragot in third and Sabrina Jonnier being the runner-up to Moseley. In the juniors, American Neko Mullaly barely missed the top spot, losing out to Australian Troy Brosnan. Brosnan, the 17 year old, will be one of the few Junior World Champs with the opportunity to defend his title next year. With a scant 7 hundredths of a second separating the top two, it was the closest margin of victory of any of the categories.

MTBCut says it all best in their coverage of race day, World's 2010.

And Freecaster's head-to-head of Sam and Steve's runs depicts the events clearly, including Smith's mishap, can be found at this interweb locale.

Until next year, that's it from World Champs!
