My daughter will never grow up without a father who tells her "I love you" every day. Nor will she grow up with a dad who sees himself as a provider only and not a nuturer too.
Can't do anything about the past but I can sure do my best to make sure it doesn't repeat itself.
I've spoken to my parents exactly one time in the last 17 years. My mom couldn't even be bothered to call and let me know when dad passed in 2020.
I'm certainly trying to do better with my daughter, whom I definitely hug and say "I love you" to everyday, but sometimes it's important to recognize that you don't need certain people in your life, no matter how closely related they might be. My biggest fear is being exactly like my parents.

just getting out of charlotte on the friday before xmas...once out of the region, all was good.
My dad was always there for me, even when I fucked up, we would talk it out and together we would determine the appropriate corrective action. Mom on the other hand was a prescription drug addict. she had 36 different bottle of class A narcotics in her "medicine " cabinet. You never knew which violent pyschotic bitch of the hour you would encounter. After I moved out I think I talked to her less than 10 times in 20 years. I was civil to her her final few years for my dads sake. she died at 70 dad was around for another 16 years. I miss him, her? not at all.

Much of my regular cliff band snorkel was unapproachable due to giant swell and sand, but I had to swim out past the beakers and then parallel to them for 1/2 mile just to make sure.

I was humbled by the raw power of the ocean on display today.
Saw some fish, didn't die and still better than an XC ski by a nautical mile
Good thing I got out of the water, because these brigands were passing through shortly thereafter.

my wife always gives me shit saying that I will never find my stuff because I don't put things neatly away like she does. We are leaving on a trip tomorrow. took me 5 minutes to pack because I knew where I put my gear. she is tearing her shit apart because she can't find her rain gear. I'm sitting here pleasantly amused beer in hand watching yet keeping my mouth shut and trying not to smile while watching her search.
