San Fran set for Feng-Shui Law
Ananova ^ | Friday 30th January 2004

A San Francisco politician has proposed a new law which would mean planners have to consider a building's energy flows.

The 4,000-year-old Chinese art of feng-shui claims to channel positive energy, known as chi, leaving the building's occupier in a state of harmony.

Buildings, and the objects within them must, be positioned correctly to channel the energy properly.

Leland Y Yee's proposal would mean that the California Building Standards Commission would have to adopt standards that would aid feng shui.

The motion must pass the committee stage before progressing to the full Assembly for approval.

"The structure of a building can affect a person's mood which can influence a person's behaviour, which, in turn, can determine the success of a person's personal and professional relationships," the proposal states.

"The concept of feng shui is a simple one - to improve your life by improving your relationship to the environment around you," said Mr Yee, who is also a child psychologist.

"Feng shui is an earth science that examines mathematics, physics, geology, astronomy, and architecture, among other sciences."

Mr Yee, who left China at the age of three, added: "It employs the concepts of balance and harmony, and incorporates natural elements to enhance health, wellbeing and prosperity."

Feng Shui... a fad  :monkey:
If so, then so is Christianity

As for the "law" itself, that's stupid; however, there are real positive non-mythical aspects to the application of FS.

Getting the govt involved in architectural aesthetics cringe: Alaska used to require 1% the cost of a state funded building to be dedicated to art. We had some ugly mobiles and sculpture on campus along with some horrendous oil paintings of the school big wigs.

Blech.

Yeah, I notice when Im in a interior layout based on the art of FS I seem to be much less likely to stub my toe... this leads to a much more pleasent peaceful environment due to the fact that I'm not yelling out, OUCH!!!! SON OF A MUTHER PHUCKING B!TCH, WHO'S PHUCKING IDEA WAS IT TO PUT THIS METAL MOTHER PHUCKER IN THE... etc, etc.

Last I heard California had some debt problems, so why not compound them by adding 10+ % to all building projects to implement feng shui. Great decision making California.
