I just got Sirius radio today. WTF how did I live without this before? Seriously - if you like music get out and get a satelite receiver, it's amazing!

I said the same thing when I got my XM. It's radio the way radio should be.

We get a bunch of stations through our Dish package. I actually like the stations unlike the local radio I put up with during my morning commute. If I wouldn't have to pay for the equipment and the monthly service fee I'd get it set up my car as well... They don't offer a rebate on equipment purchases do they?

My brother was going to give me his XM unit then he told me that the majority of the programming is done by Clearchannel. Is the programming any good or is it just the same old canned crap every FM station is spewing without the commercials?

Oh no! I had no idea that it was clearchannel. I'll need to do some research.

As far as programming goes, it depends on the station you tune to. This morning I heard the Dead Kennedys, Lagwagon, Sex Pistols, Queers, Go Betty Go, Propaghandi, Anti-Flag, Bad Brains ... can't say I've heard any of that on FM. :thumb:

Not to mention they are taking your money and using it to pay for market research so they can develop the next Avril Levign and introduce a new generation to "rebelious" music :(

Verizon will be rolling out EV-DO CDMA cellular data networks on a much larger scale soon (around DSL speeds). When that happens you can get higher quality free radio off the Internet - that will rule!

Uugghhhh ....... dear god, are you people nuts?!?!?!?!

Sirius is having a 3 day's free promo via computer and I'm terribly dissapointed.
The DJ's yak as much, if not more than regular radio. Is it like that all the time, or is it just a "promo" version being piped out? Is XM like this as well? I thought the whole idea behind pay radio was to get rid of the obnoxious yakity DJ's and commercials. I'm so glad I found about this now, I almost laid down the cash for the hardware this afternoon. It doesn't go 3 songs before some a$$hole starts in about "Siruis this, and Sirius that, blah blah blah". This can't be how it really is .... is it? :(

No it's not like that. They are just trying to sell you on the service.

I picked up the Delphi Roady for about $100. The XM monthly fee is $9.95 unless you subscribe to any premium channels (Playboy). They cost an additional $2.99. Personally, I think naked chicks sound the same as clothed chicks, so I just pretend everyone on the radio is naked and save my money.

Hey, what's the cost of the reciever and the monthly service for XM and Sirius.

XM receivers are around $100 - $130 for a car set up. The service is $9.95 a month.

This one is fairly cool. If you don't have a tape player and need an FM modulator, the modulator that comes with this plugs in the lighter. It sounds great in a new subaru, though I can't vouch for other stereos. I have a modulator hard wired in the xterra and it works fine also.

Thanks for keeping the faith. As the night wore on, I moved away from the more youthfull collegy stations and on to the more chill sounds. It would seem that yakkity DJ's is part of the personality of some stations.
Most seem to just announce the station number and name quickly every 4-5 songs. That I can live with. Our of curiosity, is there a reason why ya'll went with one or the other [XM vs Sirius]? I was looking at Sirius because it had NPR while XM did not. XM is a buck or two cheaper per month but both look like it's around $150 to get started [reciever and dock]. Hmmmmmm. XM has an online 3 day trial as well. Unfortunately, Sirius' trial does not include it's non-music stations. Bummer. ...... but I'm loving the music selection. Haha, over 200gigs of mp3's and I'm listening to Satelite Radio, go figure. :p

it would be cool if you could somehow get web-streamed broadcasts from stations...i could get behind listening to stuff like WFMU, Resonance (UK), KCRW, etc.

for any of those who care, XM also signed MLB for the next few years. They will be carring almost every spring training, reg season and october games as well as some baseball related news channels. this is all with the basic programming too. XM Roady2 is #1 on my Xmas list

"The next few years" meaning an 11-year broadcast and marketing agreement. :D

XM came in my new truck free for 3 months.......I'm a tightwad so I wasn't gonna pay for it beyond the free trail but I got hooked.....
I don't even listen to FM anymore, except to hear some local talk radio.
