I'm running in my first cross country race in a couple of hours. It's 8K...that's about 5 miles for you non-metric folks. Right now though, it's coffee and oatmeal. OK then.

Yo people. Sunny day. Gas is again available on Long Island without long lines and odd-even rationing ended last night. Perhaps I will fly the kite at the beach. (No, that's not a euphemism. I have a kite. )

4-day weekend.
Spent yesterday at my rehab facility for a reunion lunch (annual early thanksgiving). Saw some great improvements in folks I was in the program with.
Had coffee with a visiting friend and death-survivor. We went to a Starbucks and the dude behind the counter was a drummer I had been buds with years ago but fallen out of touch with.
Had dinner with mom.
Got a barrage of text messages from the girl I've been seeing, starting with "do you like ICP?"
Got a gig offer that I'm stoked on.
Went to bed early.
I have it down to a science. Coffee is a must before a race for that very reason.
Ran my race in 38:46 (7:48 pace). 42 of 102 overall, 8 of 17 in my age group. Friggin fast field. That was a tough race. Rocks and sticks covered in leaves, with plenty of uphill. It is part of a local race series so lots of teams and fast runners show up to earn points. I knew I was screwed when all the guys up front were in shorts and singlets in 25 degee temps. I dressed warmer:
