Its funny seeing this and reading post from the other end of the biking spectrum. Think about what is extreme to you and them.

Who is "you" and who is "them"? I have an XC bike, a CX bike and a DH bike. I probably couldn't get over one of those barriers on my CX bike without smashing the rings. I don't think anyone in that thread said it was
"extreme," just that it's hard.

Some cyclocross guy saw me bunnyhop onto a table, and totally freaked out. He said that skill like that would be really beneficial in racing, so I tried to show him how I did it. I was getting pretty frustrated while helping him because no matter what he couldn't get over just a few inches, clipped in. Then I had him switch bikes with me because my hardtail would be easier to bunnyhop, when I tried bunnyhopping his bike it was the scariest fuking thing. The geometry of those bikes is NOT for doing that kinda ****, so it still takes an assload of skill to jump the smallest barrier.

furthermore, as noted in the other thread the guy doing the hopping and the road gap :D is a former mtb pro, who could probably school you on mountain bike as well.

i have hopped 27" on a road bike, so i dont think that it would be that much different on a cx bike.
Whatever bro...

I don't doubt that, as after seeing the road trialer in whistler I have a newfound respect for things that can be done on them... but seriously, ragging on CXers because you think DHing is more 'hcor' or 'xtreem' or whatever is just lame. I doubt many of us are in good enough shape to finish a CX race much less compete, and I am sure hopping one of those 18 inch wooden barriers is damn hard while going all out in the middle of a race. Who gives a f**k anyway... as long as they are riding bikes.

I was never saying that cx is not "cor" or "xxxxtreme" And i never said that hopping one of those barriers was easy. I just thought that it was funny the response that the pics got. I have hopped 2 size 12 shoe boxes on a road bike (drunk stunt) and have raced expert cross country for 4 years. ( racing short track for a while and regular xc in the 100+ weather in texas) I was not ragging on cyclocross guys, just pointing out how different the complete opposites of the cycling spectrum is.

That link was great to check out... The bike differences and race setting really put it into perspective. I am dying to get my hands on a CX bike as a commuter and training bike. I really don't think that anyone who exists in the DH/FR/Street realm would ever slag a CX rider. If anything (due to their insanity) I would expect that it is a cycling community that our would have amicable relations with. The scary thing is that a sexy Independent Fabrications CX bike gets me going the same way looking at Brooklyn FQ does... Two beautifully crafted rides for very specific purposes.
