Well I have been super busy with end of the year crap lately, and thought I was pretty stressed out...

well the other day I returned to school with 25 of my graphics club students after a great field trip to a couple of printing plants in the area to find police cars flanking our HS... It is pretty uncommon to find cops at the school unless something big is happening, so the kids were a little on edge.

I walked into the office to find that a random 30 something y.o. man walked into the cafeteria at lunch and rambled incoherently a bunch of stuff then held up some food off of a students plate and yelled "this is how you start a food fight" or something to that effect and then the lunch monitors were able to escort him out!

I was alarmed about it and glad no one was hurt.

By the evening time they knew who the guy was and had taken the proper actions. Unfortunately like many of our service men and women, this guy was suffering from P.T.S.D. and was taken to the VA for evaluation... His identity was released and some of my coworkers were shocked and pretty upset. They didn't recognize him even though he had just visited the school a few years back... His sister works in the district and we had been hearing reports from her that since his return from Iraq he has been having problems and lots of "mental conflicts". It is just sad to see our service people not get the support they need when returning from active duty, let alone the fact that (in my opinion) they are putting their lives on the line based on lies!

I always have, and always will support our troops, yet it is saddening to me to see a healthy young man return broken like this, over a trumped up war!

BUSH LIED PEOPLE DIED though, (don't take this the wrong way), but I don't know what is worse, seeing the pain on this young mans face from the video footage was enough to really bring me down!

as i'm sure others can attest, the military tends to allow a broad spectrum of people, including those from severely damaged upbringing, making them more susceptible to mental illness & breakdown. i'd advise against assuming one way or the other this guy's state of health before being shipped off.

i had a good laugh at all the crackpots & whores i served with, and did get a little concerned when they took an interest in destructive behavior. interested enough to stay clear.

should be some good pre-screening going on as well as post. but i don't believe we're in a position to get picky just yet.

I hear ya $tink, but regardless of their state going in, I think we can all agree that they need more support going out. Too many injured vets aren't getting what they need.

N8, Not in years... since seeing my Grandfather on his death bed... not good memories and I agree... I hope since then they have gotten better.

$tinkle point well taken, however all accounts from teachers, his sister and 2 teachers whom I work with that went to school with him, all had accounts of him being a great guy with no proclivity for mental issues. :disgust1: I agree with you as well, knowing a few of the X-students who have gone into the military trying to get some structure in their lives, or to run from their past, or something more severe, running from themselves! Combat stress I am sure could throw some of these individuals over the edge!

Front Range, dude...
Wanna support the troops? Bring them home, issue hookers and beer. Dont send them into pointless meaningless conflicts where they are killed for no reason in particular and then come home to slashes in VA funding and benefits...

I would never make assumptions about one's mental state before entering a war zone.

To me, he is another casualty of the war, no different than any Purple Heart.
