Here is a pic of my communting, go everywhere bike. It's a 2006 Marin Novato; nothing out of the ordinary, but very fun to ride. Getting tired of those gears, really tired, and would like to go SS. What are the mods that I need to do?

Excellent bike for a conversion. Basically, you are stripping the drive train down to the bare minimal. Everything you need to know is covered here....
