so i may be young (still not legal to drink....but not by much), but i just sampled some of the best scotch of my life. i kinda figured i might as well enjoy being pretentious about my alcohol intake rather than deny it. i love scotch. thus far, i've "worked with" lagavulin, glenlivet, glenmorangie, glenfiddich, macallen, talisker, and this evening's beauty, oban. anyone else want to cast aside self respect, succumb to the loveliness of alcohol snobbery and join me in a toast to good booze?

Mmmmm scotch, my favorite.

So far the best that I've had is the Macallen 18 followed by Balvenie 12. Interestingly enough I like the Balvenie 12 more than the 15, it just seems smoother and more complex to me. After that I would have to go with Deanston 12. Of course these are all single malts. I have a bottle of Johnny Walker 18 I got for Cristmas, and to tell the truth it is just a little too smokey compared to the others that I have had. Now JW Blue is not like that, and is smooth but expensive.

We have a local bar here that has no idea what to charge for glasses of scotch. I can get a near full glass of Balvenie with one small ice cube for $4.

On a side note for four of my freinds college graduation gift I bought them a bottle the Macallan 18. While at the party I had an older fellow start bitch!n me out about how scotch tastes like horse hockey and that he only keeps it around for his rich customers. All the while he is pounding back Bud Light.

I sold my Homegrown to a guy in Mankato...Know anyone with a gold and black Schwinn Homegrown? Tell him I want it back.

Mankato, eh? i go to school in the cities...Macalester actually. and frankly, JW Blue is great, but not worth the pennies. something like 20-25 for a double shot. i think at this point, the glenmorangie 10 is the best bang for the buck: very smooth, but with hints of chocolate at the end....mmmmm. and all for about 40 bucks per fifth. although, i was just recently in NYC and found a bottle from a real small maker; glen rothes, i think. i had the 30 year at a bar and it was truely amazing; really something else. any body else ever tried it?

I've been talking up McCarthy's lately, as it's my new fave..
Not REALLY scotch - because it's made in Oregon!
They use Widmer Brothers grain, and the stuff is really nice, if you like your scotch on the peaty-malty side. Goes for about $40 a bottle. Good stuff.......
