So I was searching around last night for a bike in my price range, and saw the Scott Addict R4 is in my budget. It looks like a great, fast bike, and I have heard that the Addict is a great line from Scott. I was lnjust wondering if anyone has an Addict R4 and how they like it, and most importantly how it does for racing. Is it a race specific bike? It seems sort of like people use them just for riding and not racing.
Any help would be great. Possibly I could go with the R3 as it isn't too much more expensive, and I have been saving up forever and have enough cash.

Thanks,
Matt

My team is sponsored by Scott and while I love their bikes I would never buy one if I didn't get a smoking deal on it. They have a lot of technology tied up in them, but you pay for that and the name. I still think you should look at used bikes...

I hear Felt bicycles are very good.

The only things I have negative to say about the Scotts is that the front end is very high on them. They use a 390mm axle to crown fork. That ends up raising the bar height about 20mm compared to a standard road race bike...

And also, they are pretty damn expensive, and have a pretty poor US dealer network.

They look nice, and I got a great deal on an R4 or R3. So is it not worth getting one? How are they as a RACE bike?

I have sold more bikes this year to people who owned high end carbon race frames and broke them in inconsequential crashes than for any other single reason.... Just remember, none of the major bike companies have warranties that cover racing, nor do carbon wonder-bikes stand up to the wear and tear of a few seasons of racing....

If you plan on owning a frame for more than a year, Alu, Steel and TI (Or high-end domestic Carbon from Crumpton, Parlee and IF) are still the only way to go.... IMO, ATMO, YMMV, etc. (But I am right).

This is tough! I got a great deal on it, heard great reviews, but I don't wanna buy one and then regret it.

You'd be surprised, I have 4 old coworkers here too!

And Mickey, I still want a Spooky at some point, when I'm not going broke buying bikes from here... :)

Welll, I bet you could ride an AR4 for like, 20 minutes sell it and buy 3 or 4!

I hear there a lot of old Santa Ana GT folks in the house too?

My AR1 is hot sh!t, but what's the point of selling a bike to get a new one? Just add more! That's why I have WAY too many bikes.
Sigh.

Yup, lots of GT folks, but we pretty much started that way, from the top on down. It's a small, inbred industry...

If you get a good deal on it, you won't regret getting the Scott. They are damn fine race bikes and have a compliant vertical ride and are stiff laterally.

you said you had been saving forever to buy a bike, if that's the case racing itmight not be a good idea. wrecks happen in racing alot, carbon breaks.trust me i know. dont overlook a Cannondale Caad 9 off ebay. can be had for dirt cheap and make one hell of a race bike. if not for sponsorship you can bet i would be on one.just my two cents

I tend to agree. Find a nice CAAD9 or something, slap some Dura Ace on there, splurge for some dope wheels, and you're golden. Don't get a Cervelo with cheaper parts if you're going to lay it down. That would suck...even though it's a Cervelo.

listen to james . shoot, ultegra sl is only a few grams heavier that dura ace and is muuuuch cheaper. caad 9, ultegra sl, then get some dope race wheels
SL may be lighter, but it doesn't hold up like DA. If you're going to be beating up on your parts, I wouldn't go with anything less than DA7800. I'd stay away from 7900 on this build, you can get great deals on the 7800 parts, and the alloy levers would hold up better in a crash.
Though SL should be going on closeout soon, with the new Ultegra 6700 coming out soon, which is pretty much DA7900 Lite. Hell, maybe even look at 6700, depending on the price.

Your best bet:
CAAD9 frame
DA7800
Alloy bar/stem (better in a crash, go down on carbon and you need a new bar)
Carbon tubular race wheels
32 spoke training wheels

Money left over for race fees and new Sidis...

Damn, this is making me think about a new bike for myself. Oh wait, I already built a sweet alloy frame with DA7800. It rules hard.

Yeah, WTH have you been? Waiting until Vino made his comeback?

Maybe I'm just a snob, DA is just about all I want to run. It does feel slightly different than Ultegra, especially the more miles you put on it. I have Ultegra on the "rain bike," but I'm considering making an upgrade to a sweet Paris-Roubaix special team frame that we got back from them. F1SL in special Paris-Roubaix carbon layup, custom dropouts to lower the BB, lengthened stays and forks for more clearance. I have a DA7800 kit that would look pretty good on there...it'd be sweet to have one of 8 frames we built this year like that. Actually, we have 'em for sale, if anyone else wants one... :)

Bikes bikes bikes, well, I got three last month: AR1 , F1SL, and a Curbside fixie that I'm putting a bunch of cool stuff on. I have an F95 alloy frame that I built with DA7800 as a "starter Felt."
So
AR1 - DA7900
F1SL - Red
F95 - DA7800
Curbside
C50 - DA7800
United Scandium - Ultegra

Those are the built-up road bikes currently, well the AR1 and F1SL are just getting finished getting cabled and bars wrapped. I have a handful of frames/half-built bikes, but as they're not Felts, they will be getting cleared out at some point.
I have some MTBs, but I don't really ride fat tires anymore, so they will have to go at some point.

Yes, I have problems, serious problems. But I love it.

Is the United bike a Fuji?

Want a TT bike? Look 496? :)
Colnago CLX frame? :)
That will hopefully pay down my account/get me that PR frame... :)

Bikes are awesome. I'm at the sales meeting now, seeing the '10 bikes, and realizing now how much my garage is going to change for next year. New bikes rule.

yes sir...C7 carbon frame straight from Sean Tucker :thumb:
Right on, I have the previous scandium/carbon United bike, sans paint. It's a 56 though, I wish it was a 58...

I believe C-Dale has a BB30 CAAD9 with 7900 D/A coming out next year for less than $3k.
That's true, I forgot. It has an FSA crank though, and I think Cannondale (Tektro) brakes. Still a rad deal on a bike though, for sure.

mine is a 58 ;) and its getting ready to go ebay...would rather hook a monkey up....i need some wheels....just sayin:D
If it were the scandium frame, you'd have a deal, but I don't see myself adding a Fuji to the stable. If I weren't employed where I'm employed I'd think about it though. As it is now, I have my Felts, then the other "off the beaten path" bikes like the United, or the Colnago. The C50 will always be with me. Trying to upgrade to Campy at some point soon, just trying to minimize my outlay for it. A C50 needs Record honestly. And those 11spd hoods feel sooo good. It'd be neat to have a DA7900, Red, and Record bike to choose from...:D

that would be sweet having all three .my system six has Red on it and i like it better than 7800....have never really spent any time on Campy......i'm afraid to
I never liked Campy 10spd hoods, just didn't fit my hand all that well. I'm totally in lurve with DA7800, though Red ain't so bad either. Haven't spend enough time on the DA7900 yet, hopefully soon.

Dude....you guys are geeks...

I totally want to be in teh club....

Just as soon as I lose the duct tape on my bars...

Seriously though...I want nice sh*t!!!
All it takes is money! Well that, and the willingness to spend it I suppose.

its not a club ..its a sickness:D only reason i race is to get free sh*t
That is very similar to the reason I'm employed in this industry. That and the fact that I would be too bored with a "real job" that I would no doubt be unemployed.

Seeing all of our '10 stuff today, WOW.

I have like 4 pairs of carbon tubies, 3 of which I haven't ever ridden. Lame huh? Cole Wheels (www.cole-products.com), they make nice stuff.

I can't remember the last time I broke a set of wheels, at least road wheels. Never I think...
