My wife has a Jamis Dakar with a seatpost diameter of 27.2mm. How do I know what size clamp to buy for it?

I see one on Performance that's either 138 or 114... is that the diameter, circumference or what? What size should I buy?

Anyone know of any good deals on a decent QR? The stock Jamis one sucks.

Measure the old one? There are 3 pretty common sizes, a small usually seen on steel frames, 30.? (I think) on aluminum bikes with a 27.2 seat post and the bigger one for frames with the 31.8 seat post.

I guess measuring the old one would be a good place to start eh? :D

Unfortunately, I'm at the office, so I can't measure it. It was a spur of the moment idea when I saw a saddle on sale that she wants. I thought I'd buy a new clamp that actually works at the same time.

I'll just measure the clamp and possibly spoil the "atta boy" I would've gotten.

27.2 post is undoubtedly a 31.8mm clamp. It's usually the same size as your front derailluer clamp.

Oldfart is right; the 28.6mm clamp is usually on steel frames; the 31.8mm is for most aluminum ones, and the 34.9mm clamp is for big ones; like a 29mm-and-up sized seatpost.

cool... thanks...

I contacted the local Jamis dealer, then called Jamis directly--still no answer from them. It's nice to have people who know what they're talking about here! THANKS!
