I love my Thompson on my XC bike but wasn't sure how they do when abused .. So Kidwoo .. any experience with either or just speaking out of your ass?
If running one on an Evil Imperial at a pretty good extension (with the whacky seattube angle and no give on the rear end) doesn't qualify as "abusing" a seatpost, then I don't know what does.. No problems so far, not even a creak! :thumb:

Thompson, this is a spot I always used to skimp on esp with my DH and DJ bikes, but a phucking seatpost can really annoy you when the bolt shears off mid ride. or the phucking think creaks, thompson is the ONLY way to go, race face is good but Thompson owns the game right now...

While it is true that my face is often mistaken for the human anus frame, I do speak from a mouth which belches forth these truths.

I have bent probably 3 seatposts in my time. None of them have been Thomsons. Of the two that I currently own on two different bikes, one on my DH rig, the other on my freeride bike, both maintain full integrity and functionality.

The bung hole representative hath spoken.

Experience .. thank you Kidwoo :D

Thompson it is .. good thing I work for a bike shop on the weekends .. neither of those posts are cheap :blah:
Yeah, but the hospital bill incurred when a sheared off seapost has to be surgically removed from your anus isn't cheap either...

Lesser of two evils, you know?

At one point I was bending about 5 seatposts a year (in one month last year I went through 3...) 2 years straight. This is on my kona roast where I am 6'5 and have tonnes of extension out of the top. I have run thomson all season....no bends. I will never buy anything else.

I have heard good things about the I-beams and the Diablous...but I have found my post and don't plan one spending 140$ to HOPE another one doesn't break.

What kind of bike is it going on? If it's a DH bike, your seat will be so low (i.e there won't be much leverage exerted on the seatpost), anything would probably do, so get the cheaper one.

That being said, I have (had) about 4 Thomsons and no problem.

Been looking at those for a bit. Which version ( seat ) did you get? I am still rocking the flite on my Heckler but, I know it won't last long.

I have the I-Fly C Saddle..very comfy since it had a bit more padding than the I Fly. SDG didn't have any I Fly's left when I got it. The entire setup is still retarded light and pretty darn strong.

Cheaper than a thompson and it has some offset which I prefer for DH.
Its also 1-pc like the thompson so its not going to develop any creaks.

I have the Titec Knock Rated Scoper post and its telescopic feature is great for climbing but the 27.2 inner post is overly heavy. I will probably replace it with an EA50.

My vote is for the Raceface Diabolus. I have bent two Thomsons and cracked a third one. Raceface is really good about the warranties too. The cats from Thomson told me to fugetaboutit after my second one went. Kinda sad too since I live in Georgia and would love to be more enthusiastic about their products. :oink:  :(

I vote for thomson.

I went though 6 kalloys on my hardtail before i got one, the main reason being that my hardtail takes a 30.6mm seat pole which no one makes one for. So i got a 30.8 thomson and got it machined down to 30.6mm and it's going strong.

I love thomson seat poles

Whenever I've had seatpost dramas, it's been at the head, so even on a DH bike a strong post is worth it, especially if you get lazy and do things like slam your ass down on the back of the saddle when changing body position.
