funny how if he did well in spite of overtly racist anti-obama stuff being widely spread, he would be touted as "overcoming his blackness", but now that he's doing well in spite of a lack of such racist attacks, we must, must, must assume the voting public isn't as superficial as that.

for you to believe that the voting public is smart enough to look past his blackness is to also ignore there are folks who voted for bush both times just because he's a bush.

people do **** out of laziness in every other walk of life; why should political nomination be any different?

I do genuinely think that the majority of the voting public is "looking past Obama's blackness" and straight to his personality, which is exactly why (before his first term) Bush was popular ("I like him. Dagnabbit, I'd have a beer with him.") This is unquestionably lazy compared to actually examining political positions, performance history, or credentials.

yes, i agree, the majority is looking past his skin. however, i contend - & agree w/ geraldine - that he wouldn't be as successful if it weren't for his color. remember, this is neck-and-neck, and who's to say he would have been the democrat darling if he were white? he's an "extremist" (e.g., most liberal voting record in senate), and these types typically don't get the support to run for high office, especially against the clinton machine.

(don't suppose anyone cares to acknowledge that a significant part of hillary's success is due to her presumed double dose of X chromosomes)

100% correct. If he was white, he'd be JFK.
Not unless Obama was obsessed with sex and his father was the head of the Irish mafia that controlled the economy of the Northeastern US.
And, on the topic of sex, how come JFK has become a saint, and Spitzer is now a leper? Spitzer has nothing on JFK for extracurricular activity. Maybe because Spitzer was lame enough to have to pay for it?

This reminds me of Rush Limbaugh's comment about black quarterbacks and Donovan McNabb.

I bet Ferraro meant it as a compliment, but commenting about race in an odd way makes you look real bad.

Must have been a oxycontin binge she was on when she said it.

JFK became a saint because chicks dug him, and he didnt pay for it.

Marilyn Monroe on the Oval Office desk...compared to Monica Lewinsky in a hallway and some lame governor paying for 80k for it and not wanting to wear a condom.

Hillary just needs to find some melanin pills. A presidential version of that wacky '80s commedy Soul Man. Soul Woman, Airforce one could be Soul Plane.

Ed Rendel - D said:
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Gov. Ed Rendell, one of Hillary Rodham Clinton's most visible supporters, said some white Pennsylvanians are likely to vote against her rival Barack Obama because he is black.

"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate," Rendell told the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in remarks that appeared in Tuesday's paper.

To buttress his point, Rendell cited his 2006 re-election campaign, in which he defeated Republican challenger Lynn Swann, the former Pittsburgh Steelers star, by a margin of more than 60 percent to less than 40 percent.

"I believe, looking at the returns in my election, that had Lynn Swann been the identical candidate that he was — well-spoken, charismatic, good-looking — but white instead of black, instead of winning by 22 points, I would have won by 17 or so," he said. "And that (attitude) exists. But on the other hand, that is counterbalanced by Obama's ability to bring new voters into the electoral pool."
yeah, it had nothing to do w/ the fact that his best known service to PA is for catching a football in the 70's

Rendell has a valid point; however, saying it is tearing apart the DNC.

Other than Bill Clinton, Repubs can run a Ham Sandwich and win since the DNC so enjoys destroying itself.

Obama needs to step up to the plate now if he wants to be considered a "Uniter" and fix his own party before the general election.

Dems think the country won't elect him because he's black, so they won't nominate him... because he's black.

My soul just died a little.

(I think that qualifies as a stinklism)

one thing i strongly believe: the DNC needs to nominate this guy...and not just b/c hillary's running.

i'd vote for him over an equally qualified person, for one big reason: we'd get street cred from a huge part of the rest of the world. right or wrong, we'd be a more effective country
