My 5mm derailleur bolt (the one that attaches to the hanger) won't break free so that I can reconnect it to the new hanger. I'm guessing it's a leverage issue. My question is will something like PB Blaster help free it up and not damage anything? I just about busted a tendon trying to loosen it yesterday.

I've never heard of a derr bolt seizing. Depending on hold old the derr is, you may have little to worry about. You're already replacing the hanger? If so, I would take a trip to your LBS and see if they have an old derr like yours that you can steel the bolt from. Most shops hang on to busted derr's for parts, mainly the jockey wheels, so they should give you the bolt. Changing the bolt is tricky, but very doable. It involves holding a spring in place while lining pieces up, to give you an idea. Even if you find a bigger wrench and get the thing unthreade, there is likely to be too much corossion on it for it to work well with the new hanger.

Maybe "seized" isn't the right word, but I can't budge it. I'm guessing if it was still attached to the hanger and the bike, it would allow for some leverage and come right out. I'm going to have someone else hold it while I try to remove what's left of the hanger or put it in a vice. The derailluer is less than a year old, so it shouldn't be too bad, but it was a wet sh*ty year in 2003. :(

So then are you saying that the derr hanger has already been unbolted from the frame? That would explain a lot!

Yeah, it was "prematurely separated" from the frame by a tree limb. :p Anyhow, it's ok now. Pliers holding the derailleur at the same time as unscrewing the 5mm backed it right out.
