Hey monkies, check this out.
Join fat tire friends new and old on Sunday, July 31 in Rossland on an
adventurous day in the mountains Kootenay style, by riding the Seven
Summits Stud. This poker ride is a fun, non-competitive way to
experience this new backcountry gem of a trail while collecting cards
for prizes. This is a challenging route on 95% singletrack above and
below treeline traversing the Rossland Range. At 30km it may not seem
that long but we guarantee you will be tired! Riders start climbing into
the alpine from Strawberry Pass on highway 3B where the scenic views
begin. Once above the treeline the trail climbs and descends along
ridges through alpine meadows and across talus slopes. The icing on the
cake is the downhill finish, a high speed rip down the Dewdney trail
dropping 1300m (4000') from the top of Record ridge. Expect to take
between 4-6 hours depending on fitness, time spent smelling alpine
flowers, and how many rolls you stop to eat at the sushi station midway.

The early bird entry fee is $20 up until the day of the event and $25
for registration on the day of. Included in your entry is a
commemorative beer glass and a pasta dinner party afterwards. Riders
must start by 9am, but if you want to take your time we encourage you to
start as early as 8am so you can still make the cutoff time at the
midway feed station. There will also be shuttles provided for riders to
get back to town or to retrieve their vehicles.

more about the trail, please. I just got back from one of Kristy's camps and heard all about the trail . It was described as pretty buff, but with killer climbs; not technical at all.

I'm a strong XC rider with a decent fitness base. What are the climbs and at what altitude?

30 kms = about 18 miles or so.

thanks for any info,

Start at 1500m, climb to 2250m, then theres a mix of climbing and descending all the way down to 700m.

I'm moderatley fit and rode it last year on a 45lb freeride bike with a granny ring in 6 hours taking my time. There is one major hike a bike section that will eventually be rebuilt, and the rest of the climbs are tough but definitley rideable. If you are a strong xc rider this shouldn't be that tough for you.
