Severely geeky, but some might find it cool

At the casino we have a monthly birthday party for the first 500 suc..er patrons who respond.
We give em a free meal with a live band, prize drawings, cakes of fire! woo hoo.

These shows aren't great for the soundman because you have to be behind the stage mixing into headphones/monitors instead of being in front of the PA, but I digress.

Tonight, it was a dream. I got to mix on one of our new Midas XL8 consoles! (Same console Led Zep used in London last month)
There are only a dozen or so of these in the states right now, we got the first two with the new PNG faders.

What a blast! 96 channels, 96K sample rate digital signal right to the xover.
I brought my new D40 camera and took a few pics. Enjoy.

That's looks fantastic. I'm jealous of people that know music an can play it. What style music do you mix?

Do you make any music of your own that I could get for cheap to use in a vid??

I mix whatever style of music the band de jure plays... Today was 60's-70's pop tending toward soul / motown, James Brown, OJ's, they did some Marley tunes.

I can't play. Well, I can make enough noise on most instruments to count as 'line checking' the channel. I can sorta play keyboards and guitar, can hold a rudimentary beat on drums etc.

Google royalty free music and see what you get.

I did sound back in the day when it was all still analog. I used to mix Peavey and Yamaha 16 channel boards.

That board must have been fun to mix with.
We still have analog desks, but this thing is another league.

There are 14 linux computers, 10 DSP units running the desk, it utilizes a fibre optic snake that sends 192 channels of audio back and forth constantly. There are almost no audio connectors on the back of the console, just a bunch of ethernet plugs.

Fun!?? Oh yeah, with a capital F...
