Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
According to BMI he is. At 7'2" and 325 lbs and his age his BMI is 31.6. A measurment over 30 is considered obese. His response

"I've read that same formula, but as an athlete, I'm classified as phenomenal," O'Neal told The AP. "You can look it up." and for those that continue to think Shaq is obese he says. "You think that, stick to science. Top 50, three rings, lots of money, two mansions."

Almost half of all NBA players scored in the overweight category. Almost all NFL players showed as overweight and almost half scored obese.

Doctors of course were quick to point out that BMI is a first step and that many other considerations had to be taken into account before making a determination of obesity.

having Shaq in South Florida is awsome.

That being said, BMI does not take into account actual muscle mass.

The majority of the public still believes there is a magic pill. People spend more money on weight lose gimmicks a year than anything else.

Oy....I don't think I can comment on the Viagra line with out getting myself in trouble

It killed 4 people, but help so many. I bet more people have died from a gastric (sp?) bypass surgery but that hasn't been banned.

I am being sarcastic, it was probably dangerous, especially if abused, but none the less it was effective.

Did he say this tongue-in-cheek, or is he actually a complete tool?

There is no magic pill, but there is plenty of marketing to make the stupid think so.

Everytime I see a Trimspa commercial with Anna Nicole Smith, I think about a fat picture I had of her. I also think about how she has gone from stupid to mentally addled, but there are plenty of people who think that won't happen to them if they got addicted to speed.

Almost everything he says has some tongue and cheek, backed by some truth as well. Have you seen Shaq? Would you really classify him as obese? I am sure he has plenty of "people" (scientists, Dr's etc etc) that could back up his "phenominal" statement.

That commercial was filmed a few miles from my house. Local rumor has it they were basically begging people at the location to oogle over her.

No - I think that the BMI stuff is mostly crap. I was just commenting on his self-promotion. It smacks of tool-dom. :D

I don't really know much about him, so maybe he was joking around......?

Well I would imagine he was responding to some smarta$$ reporter trying to say he was fat. So he was laying the smak down.

Honestly he is one of my favorite sports stars. He has a very good wit about him.

I think BMI has its place when used in this context. Like the rest of you have pointed out, it's a problem when people (the general public) use it as a base for determining health. It's like saying that because I'm within my weight range for my age and body size, I must be in good health and shape. BMI and weight are just two factors of many to determine health, so imo, BMI can stay.

Shaq is an incredible physical athlete. For those of you who haven't seen the guy play in real life, you have missed out. People that big shouldn't be able to move with his quickness.

He is one ginormous fella. I once saw one of his shoes in a store that sold sports memorabilia...it was the biggest shoe I've ever seen...it was like 20" or more...just HUGE.

My personal favorite is fat people who insist the BMI doesn't work for this very reason.

Look, you're not Shaq. You're not an NFL linebacker. You'd be lucky to run a 40 in 40 minutes...BMI works fine for you.

HAHAHA! I saw him at the bar at the Hard Rock Hotel pool one day in Vegas...I got my picture with him. I'm 5.2 and I had to stand on my tip toes to even make it into the frame of the picture with him...camera turned sideways even. He is HUGE...and his hands completely concealed my shoulders. Dude's brutal lookin too and there were a bunch of really beautiful women hanging all over him...gross.
