I'm doing it, but have nothing more to add on the course as I haven't seen it. Heard about a lot of dirt road and lots of climbing (14000'?)

Should be a good time.

Typical virginia mountain riding. Long climbs and descents. Lots of rocks, round ones pointy ones big ones small ones. There is nothing too technical. The descent down little bald knob can be a bit sketchy especially after 75 miles or so in the saddle, control your speed and you'll be fine. There is probably 20 or so miles on dirt roads with a few miles on paved sections. This is mainly on the climb up towards little bald knob.

Sections of trail up there can get a little overgrown. You'll see some folks wearing long socks as protection from getting flayed by vegetation.

Westy summed it up right. The middle of the course also holds a couple of fast, smooth, flowing descents (Dowell's and Braleys) which will bring some fun relief into the mix. The key is to maintain a pace that will let you go into the second half of the race (climb up little bald) with some strength and energy. That descent off little bald can definitely be hairy when you are fatigued.
