Sherman B.O. Plus hex thru axle

Has anybody else had play in they're front hub, when the wheel is supposed to be clamped. I've got customers who don't seem to like it. It didn't seem like a big deal to me, I was riding one last year, with a bit of play, didn't hurt the performance any.
After 2 days of trying to get answers (good answers), blaming hubs, blaming installation. Manitou said that they didn't want the legs to flex inwards when clamping. To keep the legs sliding straight. Which is a good answer, but, most hubs I've had in the fork, have play. I played with the bearings, inspected the fork legs to make sure everything was clamping tight.
No avail, what do you tell a customer who just dropped a lot of coin......play is good........ummm,no.

I'm not getting a good idea as to where the play is? Would you feel the play in the axle/drop-out interface if you didn't mount a wheel on the axle?

on a 20 mm fork and hub setup the companies and not make both the hub and axle exaclly the same size because you would never be ableto get hte axle though the hub. so the fork companies make the axles slightly under 20 mm to solve the problem. but it is like 100th of an inch or less. so the play that you are feeling the the play in between the bearing race and the axle not to be confused with bearing play. that is the answer that should be relaid to cust.

that is all

I found that the problem is extremely finicky, thinking its the formula hubs now. 100th of an inch is like a mile, half a thoushandth would be more like it. Can't tell the customer anything yet, because that isn't the real problem. I've measured everything and it all is good. If I tear the hubs apart and reassemble the hub. Then put the wheel in, it tends to solve it, but I think the play will come back. It did on one already. My reps are working on an answer now. thanks anyways. Its too hard to explain without seeing and feeling it, I think. wrench.

Whenever I notice play in the front hub, it tends to be that the pinch bolts aren't tightened enough. I know this is really obvious and is most likely not the solution, but it's easy to forget to make sure they're tight.

Also, I have more play in the formula front hub w/ the break out than I do with my hadley and the firefly. Probably hub quality has a huge role. Infact, I never have play with that hadley hub  .
