Okay, I am having problems with an older 8spd lx drive train with SRAM shifters. I adjusted the limit screws so that the shifting is completely smooth and almost perfectly centered in each gear combo (with the exception of cross-chain combos). Anyway whenever I shift into the smallest chain ring and apply a moderate to high amount of torque the chain binds, doubles up, then binds between the frame and the chain ring. Its not a limit screw issue because when pedalling on flats or places with low torque the chain works fine. When going up hill or applying torque it binds. Its a brand new chain and is amazingly smooth in all of the other combos.

I am thinking a bent small chain ring, but what do y'all think?

That's called "chain suck" and it's usually caused by the teeth on your little ring being worn and "hooked" - might wanna replace it.....

sounds like worn chainrings. Put your old chain on and check to see if the problem goes away if so it's probablly best to get new chainrings and a new cassette to go along with that new chain. If you know that you rarely use the big ring you may be able to keep the old big ring and if you're adventurous you may be able to take apart the cassette and keep certain cogs. I find it's easiest and safest to just replace everything.

after looking at it further the little cog is the source of the problem. its hooked and the gaps are misshapen from where my little bro was always using it to pop wheelies. He never rode that much so the other rings look brand new. I also just replaced the cassette. Thanks for the help.
