So is this the new DH pedal for Shimano?

Did they do away with the old design all together?

And what is the difference between the one above, and this one:

they have had that pedal for a couple of years now. the differance inbetween those pedal is price.
Actually it is also pedal interface. the first one is the newer 979 style cleat. MUCH better at shedding mud. Much more consistent engagement/disengagement

The pedal body (the plastic part) on pedal #1 is MUCH more durable then the other. Think 1 season instead of 1 day of runs. The second one is utter crap if you actually pay for your pedals.

The nw ones are total SH#T. My buddy destroyed 4 pairs last season, thank god Shimano realizes that they suck and replaced them at every national.

Well they aren't worse then the old ones, thats for sure. The older ones have a plastic bearing retainer which breaks, and the cage snaps off in about 20 secs. The metal style like that simply bent and jammed the pedal (went though many of those).

The new ones are infinetly more durable (which isn't saying much however).

I gave up and went to crank bros and haven't looked back.

I have found that my pedals (DMR v12s) are unbeatable in the consistent engagement/disengagement in mud department. Should they engage your shins however, you will know about it.

The new ones look like they'd be way better in mud. Mud performance (rather, lack thereof) made me quit riding the older ones.
