Yeah, thats why they have “decision height” and “missed approach procedures”. Continuing an approach when you cant see the runway usually has those effects.

A mea culpa of sorts. In "I know a guy who knows a guy" news, word on the street is both the mechanics involved in the Southwest cowl departure were brand spanking new. One still on new hire probation and the other just weeks past. Both have apparently been relieved of their duties with the airline. It is heady days in the industry right now but it speaks to me of pretty poor culture that two essentially brand new people were allowed to be working all night and nobody was double checking their work. I also wonder what kind of half assed walk around the FO was doing that they failed to notice a unsecured cowl. It's not that hard to spot.
