Hey guys,

My fork felt soft, I could bottom it out just standing still.........and I think it was bottoming out alot. So it was time to do something about it.

I wanted to make my Shiver SC more progressive. I have the instructions for it and it says to fill each leg within 1" of the top of the fork when the sliders are fully compressed. I checked it and it was low on oil (I have changed the oil before in it) but must have put back in what I took out (new oil of course). So I figured I'd add 20ml to each leg. I did so, put it back together, went around the block, and going off of curbs, bouncing around on it I get about 3" of travel. It's only a 120mm travel fork. I do have the heavy springs in it as well. Rebound set to normal how I have it and zero preload on the spring

So........I measured it and I'm still not close to the 1" from the top of the leg. I thought that can't be right. Their site lists 140cc per each leg. A cc is equal to a ml. I probably have 1 3/4" from the top leg to where there is oil, maybe closer to 2".

So my question is.........should I be able to get full travel just standing still? I can push all I want but nothing goes past that 3" travel mark. I dunno if from that point it will get super progressive in that last 1" or if I'll never get the last 1" of travel. I can siphon out 5ml of fluid and see if that helps. I was just going by what the zocchi manual said as far as oil heights go.

I want to make sure I am doing this right. I take the springs out, I push the legs all the way up into the uppers, I pull that rod up and down inside the legs to make sure theres no air, I then compress it down and fill with oil?

Here is the description from the manual

HOW TO FILL WITH OIL
FIG. 20
Pour the oil little by little when the outer
sliders are fully down and then pump with
the cartridges (11) and (37) rod so as to
have a better filling.
Cartridge is full when no air is detected
when pumping, in the completely closed
position.
Check that oil level is 25 mm from the top
of the outer slider in both fork legs.

Just curious, I know it's not a "DJ" fork but you gotta do with what you got. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris

So I did this last night, the ECC cartridge side was way too full. So that was a given why I couldn't get full travel. I did the above, lowered the oil height, and now I get 3 1/2" or so of travel just bouncing around and riding on the street which leaves me with........1" left that I feel I can hit now. Both legs are 45mm (well 1.75") from the top of the legs to where oil is.

I have like 8 or 9 turns of preload and it seems to be great. It also has the heavy springs installed (stiffest for the SC Shiver) and I am 230lbs if that helps any.

Thanks again!
Chris
