I dont know about anywhere else, but does any one notice that parents are scared to put the life of their child in the hands of the big yellow cheese wagon driver? I sat in a 1 mile back up of parents taking their kids to school all turning left and overflowing the left turn lane into the traffic lane. I used to ride the glorious bus when i was growing up (the short one too... 
only one that came near my house). I know around the DC area when either school is off for the day or its summer traffic flows 10x's better. I just dont understand the need to drive your child to school on a daily basis unless a kid on the bus is stealing his lunch money, giving him a wedgie, and peeing on his pant leg. in which case you should enroll your child in Kung Fu and let him fend for himself.
