...and I liked it.

It was a brand new gun and I only shot off about 10 rounds but it was just enough to have experienced it. Apperantly the rifel was made in Bulgaria or something. It felt good and at almost 50 yards I hit the 12 pack box 4 of 6 and the other two that missed were in the dirt right in front of it. The first 4 was me getting used to the gun...letting my face get closer to it as I fired.

If that is a post ban gun I am OK with it....but the guy who owned it was chomping at the bit for the legislation to run out. :)

It was not fully auto and the guy does not plan to make it so.

It was fun to shoot, not that I would hunt with it, but it was fun. He also had some US WW1 bolt action rifle. it was looong and had a wood stock damn near the full length. Story goes he bought it off a veteran that used it in ceremonies....cool looking old gun regardless.

I am going home good night.

You gun wielding maniac!

I prefer the AR-15 myself, but the AK 47 is a fun plinker.

I wouldn't freely admit to shooting at 12 pack boxes, but I'm still a closeted red-neck. :)

The AK cartridge is so short for a 7.62 and the sights are so dismal...and you really have to practice to control the recoil. If I had to keep a weapon buried under my floorboards or deep in a big basket of rice, it'd be my first choice. Otherwise, give me an M14 if I'm going to be lugging a heavy rifle around.

Took the GF to a range for the first time to shoot a .22 handgun this weekend. It was entertaining, and she was fairly good at it. I still don't own a gun myself, though. I liked my friends 9mm glock; might consider it in .40 or .45 or a SIG. Then again, I'll be issued one or two soon, so I guess it's kind of pointless.

We rented a .44 Ruger, too, which was like shooting a hot-rod Lincoln from your hand. Just crazy how much flame shoots out the sides of that sucker. I think I like autos better than revolvers.

Says the wheel'n fool from the south. :)

It was Redneckville (Sedro Woolley) and I stuck out like a sore thumb. :D I am not a gun person, jsut never really had any. Father has a Ruger .22 revolver that I have used in the past. It was just for target shooting. I haven't tried many guns so every chance I get I will take.

It wasn't a hard gun to shoot. Yea...Soviet technology!

If any you bad boys down in Oly want to take this newb out shooting to show off your arsenal I will run down there one weekend. :)

Revolvers have a soft spot in my heart. Just something about them..... My fathers Ruger 22 pistol revovler has to have the hammer pulled back then the trigger pulled. Is that dual action? Or is dual action when it all happens with the trigger? :)

Single action=manually cock the hammer

Double action=hammer cocks self along with trigger pull

Double-action automatic pistols can be single-action once you fire the first shot...the slide's rearward action cocks the hammer as you fire. This means you have a much lighter trigger pull once you've gone single-action. Some, though, like the Glocks, don't have an external hammer or option to fire single-action. It has a consistent trigger pull for each shot (and it's remarkably nice IMHO for a double-action pistol).

Double-action revolvers can be shot single-action by cocking the hammer manually on each shot.

I recommend the Sig, very well made, I think better than the Glock. I have a Sig P226 (9mm) pre ban with 3 hi cap magazines. It's a blast to shoot..................

True military rifles? M1A1 in 30-06.
Handgun? SigSauer 229 in .45ACP
-or
Glock Model 20 in 10mm
-or-
Walther PPK/S in .380Auto
...depending upon carry/firepower needs

I love revolvers, BTW. Safe...accurate...powerful...reliable...if they could only hold more rounds, weigh less and be more concealable!

The AK is an excellent weapon used as intended, but the round is ballistically impotent compared to the 30-06 of our fine M1A1, "the most impressive battle instrument ever devised," according to Gen. Patton.

That round is nice for a poorly trained soldier who could not hit anything past it's effective range anyway... And for the weekend plinker who wants to shoot some cheap ammo other than .22LR.

*Rhino raises his hand* :)

I wouldn't choose it to hunt with...but it was fun and the guy said the rounds work out to be about $.10 a piece when he buys them in bulk.

I would probably be jsut as happy owning a 22 rifle or pistol but it was fun shooting someone elses AK :D
