im thinking about putting a Stratos El Jefe Sr on my bullit and currently the bike gets 7 - 7.5'' of travel, thats with a 8 x 2.5'' shock, im thinking about putting a 9.5 x 3'' shock on there and that would jack the travel up to 8.25- 8.9'' of travel, not effecting the head angle or bb hight at all. should i or what?

The bb height and head angle will change if you put a longer shock on it. But I don't think a shock that long will fit on a bullit.

yeah ive already measured it and its got a 1'' to grow if it needs it but the way i have it setup right now is basically the same as it would be. there is a slidable peice that my current shock ( vanilla rc ) is mounted to, i would have to take out that slide peice leaving me with a hole that would at the extra 1'' of room that i need without changing any angles

i have my bullit setup with a 3 in stroke, it does change the BB hight and Head angle a little bit, but too bad. ya the mount has to be moved back so that it will fit, and your tire isnt close to hitting the seat tube or anythig at all. it does make the bike sit taller, but its not a big diference.

i know people that work at SC bikes and they told me to do this, it will not weaken the frame at all too. so you dont need to worrie about any thing :thumb:

Ah yes....the "I'll try to modify my bike because winter sucks and I'm bored" time of year.

Don't you have the yellow Bullit with the S7 in front???

I did the same thing to my old bullit. i put a 9x3 stratos el jefe. It worked great but it did change the head angle a little and I didn't like that as much so I put the 5th element back on. Also if you get the el jefe, make sure you order it with a 10" hose for the remote reservoir. Anything smaller will be hard to mount. my $.02

They make a 9x3 El Jefe??? Hmmm...I should see if I can convert my 2.75 into 3" using all the existing parts except the rebound needle and shock shaft.

do you know how much that swingarm cost? and does it change the geomtry of the frame at all?
An aftermarket sinwgarm from a small company equals to you damn well liking your Bullit.

I have seen a lot of bullits with the 9"x3" shock. You remove the shuttle and directly bolt it to the frame. I think you have to drill out the hole. I cant remember but I think the stock hole is 6mm and you need a 8mm. I helped a buddy do it to his bullit last year. It worked well. Avalanche use to have a step by step "how to" on their website but I cant find it. Do a search or email Craig at Avalanche. Try searching Avalanche.

that aftermarket swingarm is the going to be the greatest thing that every happened to a bullit. The engineering on the swingarm is awesome. Tonic FAB is a really good company.

I think the actual length was a 9x2.8. I'd have to check the paperwork to be 100% sure. but I don't think it was a true 9x3.

When I was thinking of using the 9x3 on my bullit, I called Craig at avalanche and he didn't recommend it. They use to sell the upgrade kit to give the bullit 8" of travel, but he said that they were going to discontinue that. When I mounted my shock to the frame, I actually used a metal sleeve that fit inside the hole of the shock so that I could use the 6 mm bolts and not have to drill the frame. It worked well. I figured it would be easier to do that so if I sold the frame and wanted to keep the shock I could just bolt the original 5th element back on it.

IronJim did this upgrade to his bike and it sucks. Its not worth measing stuff up, but i might consider getting that swingarm sounds bullit-proof :)

yeah im planing on milling out a spacer to fit the 6mm bold in the 8mm hole, or really just to take up all the extra room in the shock mount, i think drillling out the frame might be to risky for me.

eh if anything i like the idea of having a slightly higher bb. right now at a litle over 14'' tall i dont do to much racing that it would really concern me about the hight
