I'm going to overhaul a friend's 2000 SID XC, and the RS service manual calls for 15 wt oil (got that) and RS's "Redrum"

WTF is Redrum? Is it a specific weight oil?

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure it's just RS's brand name for fork oil. I've never believed that a companies oil is different at all from one to the other (Marz. to RS to Manitou). Just get some type of fork oil, that's all you'll need.

Its Rock shox name for their heavy weight oil. I think its just for the wipers and foam element. The stuff I have could not be used in the damper or as a open bath lubricant. Way too thick, its like chain saw chain lube. More like a super thin grease really. But I also have a sort of really vague recollection that all their fork oils are called redrum.

I hate to say it, but RMFP (read my f**in post)

I have the posted service manual from the web site, it doesn't explain what redrum is. I am a bicycle mechanic. I've forgotten more about bikes than most people will ever know.

Don't be rude.

Isn't that the new Winamp skin?

Redrum is disgusting - it should never touch a mechanic's hands. Anyhoo, yes, it's a heavy oil (about 30WT) that's used in the lower legs - only 5cc though. Use it conservatively! Else, mix Golden Spectro with Slick Honey, make a paste, throw it in. Both seem to be gentle enough on those 'XXX' seals.

Mmmmm...xxx seals.

OK, I apologise.

I'm also frustrated by proprietary goos that come with no description of how they work.

In the absence of other info, however, I jes' follows the manual.

For the coil/oil RockShox I have maintained, I use motorcycle fork oil for the oil and Redrum and Judy Butter where recommended in the manuals.

If I had more specific information about their makeup, I might use cheaper and more easily available generics, but I don't have the info so I use the magic potions.

Better answer?

That's the part of Propellerheads' Reason that is meant to work similarly to a drum machine. It's not a plug in or a standalone synth. :)

Oh I just remebered something. Might not be relavent. The manual which came with my Psylo Race said to use redrum on seals and wipers, in the air chamber AND as the splash around stuff in the lowers. The on line manual said redrum for wipers, foam and in the air chamber, and 5wt oil to lubericate the bushings. Redrum don't splash too good. The rep told me 5 wt in the lowers. The manual I got was in error.
