Canada to US?

I just finished doing a warranty claim with Race Face since I bused a set of cranks yesterday. But they asked me for my Social Security number and told me they wouldn't be able to send me anything unless I gave it to them? They said it was needed to clear customs.

Since when? I just never like giving my SS# number out…

Allright so I made fun of the dorks who decided to make a thread about you having no posts but right now at this very instant I'm looking at one of your posts and reading zero posts.

You are a menace to society and you need to be stopped.

So SUCK OF you derelict!!!!!!!!

That's why you don't sleep and you are so damned skinny! It's all the Crank yer getting from yer freinds from up North, eh?!
I don't blame ya for not wanting to assign your SS# to that package, lest it gets stopped at the border by a snoopy dog.
You know...meth can be had for a lot less than crank and you can get it pretty local. No borders to cross.

Biggest load of crap ever, do NOT give that to anyone.

"Warranty return - no commercial value" is all you need to have on it. Customs will be fine with that, I ship back and forth across the border all the time.

Also - Canada customs could care less about that, it is a US id...it is of absolutely no use to Canada customs.

Homeland Security inacted a new policy in Sept/Oct of 2004 for all shipments coming into the US. The shipments are supposed to have either a business tax-ID number, or the SS# of the person who is receiving the shipment. Otherwise, you won't get your package. Moral: Have a LBS send your stuff to Race Face if there's a "next time".

Regardless of who you trust or do not trust, that kind of information should never be given out. You simply just do not take the chance with that kind of information.

This package is going INTO canada.

And no way the govt can actually enforce that. They would never ask for everyone to include their SS#. Hell, they tell you top protect it with your life now againts id theft.

Hey Transcend it say coming into the US....why would homeland security really care what leaves the US....D
oops, i read that wrong. That was sorta my point.

In any case, that is very bizarre they ask for that. I send stuff CONSTANTLY into the US (dainese stuff) and have never once used or asked for a SS number.

hey, anyone care to explain why a SS number is so hushush?
It's a way to make non-taxable income for one thing. If I earn money using someone else's ss #, I get the money but they are responsible for the taxes. And being an american is all about avoiding responsible infrastructure,........... I mean taxes.

Banks, credit card companies and the like also use your ss # as verification of who you are. It's one of the more important ID tools in gaining access to those things.

I still don't get why Race Face is being morons about this. I ship about 10-15 packages weekly into the US, never had a single issue besides the typical lost packages by UPS etc.
