If I have a 14 tooth rear sprocket, and I am using this bike just for dirt jumping, pump tracking and riding to your mom's house to sh!t in her aquarium, how many teeth should my chain ring have? Is it 2X the number of teeth on the sprocket? So 28t? Is that right?

Over there somewhere.
At that size you will either need to go with a modified mtb crank and only use the granny gear mount or go with a bmx crank setup. I'm running a 25x12 setup and am pleased with that setup.

So then should I go up on the tooth size in the rear so I can run a 32t?

32x15 or even 32x17 sounds about right to me. Need to see which ring is on that bike.

go 2.3-2.5. 2.0 will be a bit ****ty. I used a 32/14 for a while and it was great. I'm chainging to 25/10 but my chainline is a bit crap and 10T rear is really sentisitive to that stuff. That or I'm doing something wrong.

my bmx is something like 2.7 or 2.8, with bigger wheels, you'll wanna drop that down to around 2.3 like norbar said. so with a 17t cog you'll want at least a 38t chainring.

Damn. The Forum list shows DJ, Singlespeed, and Beginner options, yet you opt to poop the Lounge fish tank. You just might be a little Downey-soft.

You didn't give the wheel size. For a BMX-y bike you'll want somewhere around 55 gear inches. So for a 26in bike with a 14t rear ring that calls for a 30.8T front ring. Go up or down from there to taste.

Gear Inches = [Wheel Diameter in Inches] X [Front Tooth Count] / [Rear Tooth Count]
