When "New Posts" is selected, it's be nice to have a check box next to each returned item that would indicate not to return it next time.

As a complement, there might be a convenient "Show All" or "Reset" button...

Mine clears out the threads that I've already visited.

The only way mine continues showing threads I've just looked at is if I use the back button to return to the new posts page after reading a thread. Using the new posts button to get back there clears them like JM said.
