Slow Rebound on V10

I have a 04 V10 with a progressive 5th element with Ti spring

I have adjusted the rebound settings on my V10 and can not seem to get the rebound to speed up. I have also done some parking lot tests on other V10s and they also seem to have a slow rebound. is the shock tuned this way by design? Am I doing something wrong? I have only gotten to ride the bike on a few DH runs and it seemed to ride OK. But that was in comparison to my Straight six and that may not be a fair comparison.

Any tuning tips would be appreciated.

BTW I have already downloaded the manual for the 5th element and scoured it for info.

Thanks

tim flooks of tftuned whos the uk importer for 5ths and general suspension god normally suggests running the next spring rate up on the fifths if you like a slightly more lively ride.

dont worry too much about how it feels in the car park tho, its how it feels when pointed down a gnarly trail that counts and a nice slow rebound and ten inches of travel should should plough through anything!

I like a lively feeling bike and the proressive feels kind of dead. It did not seem to pack up on any of the DH runs I rode in New Mexico though.

It maybe perfect but just different than what I am used to.

Also, Winter is getting here and I need something to tinker with...

It just simply comes down to the shop not helping you out enough....they should have recomended the DHX for DH, and the 5th for more freeride. You will never be able to get rid of the dead feeling, that the 5th brings to the table, the DHX would be a more lively feeling shock.

I have a heckler, V10, Voodoo hardtail, Felt roadbike, hoffman 20", GT Cruiser and a schwinn straight six.

The V10 rides well but I am just trying to determine whether my shock is doing what it is supposed to do... :)

Send your shock in to Progressive over the winter for it's annual service. They will update it to 2005 specs. The 2005 shocks have a larger range of rebound adjustment and typically rebound a little faster. I have been on a 2005 since July on my VP Free and Chuck Conlen (Wallstreetbiker) has been on a 2005 on his 2004 V10 since Mount Snow. We both feel that the 2005 valving is an improvement for exactly what you are talking about.

Make sure to inquire about this when you call to get the RA number.

Agree with Chris above. Send your shock in for a check-up and get new adjustability. However, have you pulled the shock and made sure that your rear triangle moves smoothly throughout the travel? Just one of the many bearings binding-up will slow down the suspension. You're not going to be able to get that bike to be as reactive as a shorter travel non-SPV bike, but once you get used to the amount negative and total travel you should have no problem throwing the bike around. Personally, I don't think I'd like going back to anything else - just seems to suit my riding style (or lack thereof).
