Hey guys
I am having a little issue with my new Rig, its 2011 Fuji Reveal. The bike is great but my rear brake is a bummer. took out of ra few rides and I can not get the rear brakes not to squeak like nails on a chalkboard. I have bleed the brakes and even set the rear brake back and got new brakes from shimano I think they are M6685? I wondering if anyone new if the Shimano pads are just junk or is there something going on with the hub or has anyone had this issues before. They are SLX brakes with a 203mm rotor. The brakes do not make noise when the brakes are used but when fluttering its like someone is killing a whale. The Rotor is true and the brakes are brand new straight from shimano. Please help me out,

Hey, sorry to hear your having trouble with these brakes. I use them on my dhr and love them. Cant beat them for the price. They are just a few adjustments and shinny bits away from the xts that everyone loves. Before these I had m810 saints and they would squeal and howl like you are describing, but would also do it braking hard. You can try sanding the pads down with sandpaper and cleaning them and the rotors with rubbing alcohol. I'm using the stock pads and they have been working fine. You could try sanding down the rotors too since you said these pads are new.
I hope that can help. I know that can be frustrating as hell.

So I wiped down the rotors and that seem to work for a little bit but then the squeak came back with avengance. I havent done anything yet with the pads but the fact that it quited down after I put the rotors through a good washing makes me think that the rotors could be the issue but if that is the case wouldn't the rotors be spinning out of true? This whole issue perplexes me :/

Could it be possible that the caliper is just set at a slight angle? I don't know about your brakes in particular, but I have had brakes in the past which wail when they are rubbing unevenly.

Like said above, check the caliper/rotor alignment, and make sure the disc sits flush over the hub interface (I assume you are running the CL ones).

Also, some frame types/models are more prone to suffer from brake hawling. In my experience, the FSR/Horst Link equipped ones are propense to amplify the vibrations if the caliper mount isn't properly designed.
