And along the lines of one of Doug's contentions, restructure the payout depth. The NBL has a pretty equitable distribution of main payouts (based on % of whatever the purse is):

1) 25
2) 20
3) 15
4) 10
5) 9
6) 8
7) 7
8) 6

The current winner-takes-most sched is wacked.

when i lived and raced in texas, there was a fledgling state race series begining to take shape.
the first year was three races.
we raced for swag and raffle winnings.
next year it grew to five or six races at farther reaching venues.

as soon as they started paying back cash for expert placings, the series absolutely exploded in races and venues to the point where it was broken into two seasons.
it became very very successful.

the expert vet class went from maybe three to five or six racers to having over twenty every race and well more than that at the more popular races.

the expert senior class got so large that it had to be broken down into two age groups to keep from overloading the trails.

if you want successful events, you'd better pony up the $$$.

and the pro only cash theory is rather selfish.
you'll have a fraction of the crowd if you double the fees and just have pro payout.

I agree with dhbuilder. Maybe I am looking at it wrong , but I see the SS series as a small locals only kinda thing. It is almost always the same group at the races. Which are the same people that are there a lot in the summer just to ride. I enjoy seeing some of the people I know getting a piece of the pie. This isnt moto racing or car racing where you have huge amounts of people racing and watching. This is a small group of people just out for the fun of it on a weekend. Anything that can be done to bring in more poeple should be done.

On a different note. I think there should definatly be something done to force the begginers and Am races up a level when they win. I am not saying force them up in the middle of the series, but if you podium in any of the races you should have to move up the next season

What they should do is make it like BMX the NBL forces you to upgrade to the next level from either Rookie (equivelent of beginner) or Novice (Sport) to the next level based on results, If you win twice in a season (or second I think also) you are bumped up to the next level. After hearing that some of the riders at the Snowshoe series last year (wasnt there didnt race due to acl reconstruction) in the am class had faster times than the pro's should have had to forfit their win/placing and been seeded with the pro's (as long as they used the same course) and the AM placings should have been given to the top 3 actual AM riders that didnt ride as fast as the Pro's

That said what is the differance between giving the AM riders $120 worth of tires, or giving them the cash value of them.....maybe the AM racers would like to have the choice, maybe someone needs those tires or instead would like to pay for there ridiculously expensive race. Just a thought and idea.

well I think the jump in the cost to race from last year to this year will detract some, including myself. I am an XC rider looking to get into DH racing, and was planning on cutting my teeth at SS this summer after having a great time riding the mountain last year. I looked at the racing last year as a draw to bring people into the park. It certainly was a deal at $45 for the 2 days lift and racing, but raising the price by double is deffinately pricing me out of the game. As was stated before with travel and lodging costs, I don't think I will be able to afford the price of racing plus lift for both days!

Wow 10 pages of reading and still no answers - there are so many thought flying around right now I don't even know where to start - I guess the first thing to say is:

I have already set my summer schedule for all the SS races - however with prices that high I will only do one race.

SS should keep in mind that a hike like that will force people to goto other establishments like Diablo or Wisp - not the that either place is better but it boils down to bang for your buck.

I think everyone here had one thing in common - we are willing to pay a little more to ride at a great place like SS.

Just please please please don't F*^K us like every other sport. Who can goto a baseball or football game now.

I'm sure the good people at SS will come up with something that works for everyone.

I would rather ride my bike than do anything else. I spend tons of money on gas to get to WVA in the season and ride closer to home in the winter. it IS a great place to ride.
but, what amounts to $100 per weekend just for trail and lift access, is NOT a few dollars.

and because we're not there, don't think we won't be riding our bikes.

Konabumm is right. I think there will be a point where SS will see a loss in riders if their prices continue to rise. I have seen what they do to skiers and snowboarders, They are in the business to make money. We shouls expect a high level of quality in return. If ridership falls they will have to rethink their prices.

i called last week and they told me the same thing that it wasnt set up yet..but the activity specialist called me back today "ronda" i think and i gave her my credit card #and all my info... and when you are up there opening weekend you will get you picture taken and recieve your pass..she said they will see that you ordered it before april 30th and you will get your gift certificate and your complimentary race pass.

I just got into this sport acouple years ago and race expert. Yes, it would be awesome to see some cash pay-outs with the podium wins; however, I agree with profro and some of the others, if you're not up there racing pro you don't deserve it. You wana make the money you gota be up there with the best. It is not like this is the most easily accessible sport for media and spectators to bring real money into it. I can rarly get family or friends to come to a race if any. I highly doubt if the new race fees turn away enough racers to cause a drop in profits from last year that it will stick. There just trying to see the maximum they can get out of the bike park, thats what businesses do...

for $100 a race i am not going to snowshoe this season. i would be willing to pay $70, at MOST maybe $80, a race but at $100 i am out. i camped out every race last year because i was really short on funds and with the 9 hour drive plus the price hike i wont be able to get down there this year.

i have always enjoyed riding Snowshoe but the pricing on race weekends is a joke. $100 a race is the most expensive entry i have ever seen. i thought $80 for the US Open was high.

i understand that the resort implicated the new pricing but sorry, unless Snowshoe changes the pricing on race weekends i won't be racing there.

The first we all learned of this was 29 days ago. That said... Trevyn, You have had 4 weeks to get ALL this info to those who are making up this crazy price increase, and come up with at least a "Kiss my ass thats the price" I really dont think we are asking so so much. That race fee is a ~40% premium on top of a two day pass. What would seem reasonable to me is this: $37 for the lift pass on Sat (practice day) and $25 for raceday practice and the timed run. $62 is still a moderate increase (38%) over the $45 from last year and more in line with the overall fee structure. Last year when they were late turning on the lift, there was a huge line and most of Sunday practice was spent waiting to get on the lift anyway.

If the race rates stand, I doubt I'd come up for any of them.
