I went to circuit sh!tty today and paid for my Canon G5. I was ready to get the Nikkon, but then you :monkey:'s talked me into looking at the G5 again, and I played with them side by side for like, 20 minutes, and decided the viewfinder thing is not that bad.

I paid for it in full, and have to go pick it up from another store :):thumb:

Sweet...

I'm like Narlus and prefer point and shoot cameras. Although I would love an SLR, I probably would only end up using 3% of the features ;) I also have to get a camera since I'm cameraless now and it's killing me!!

Nice. I'm still using my long discontinued G1. I've been very happy with it...until I played around with my mom's new Digital Rebel. All I can say is "WOW". Now I'm jonesin for a new camera. A G5 would be nice. Happy shooting.

I have a new Sony DSC-F828 and I love it. Viewfinder? Wtf is that? haha. I turned my viewfinder off long ago! Luckily, the Sony can run like 5-6 hours of constant focus/display/capture before it runs out of batteries! I always had battery problems in the past...alsways running out of juice before memory. I have yet to run out of juice!

What kinda battery life do you get with that?

Ugh. Film + Nikon = the win.
heh, nice avatar there. anyway, dslrs are the way to go, not film nikons. sheesh :nope: :D

(note that i am not implying that the g5 is a dslr, for the record)

Not to hijack this thread, but TickTock, but how's the image quality with that 828? I took a few pictures with it and was noticing some pretty strong chromatic abberations, which I couldn't duplicate with my 717. I poked around online and noticed a few reviews mentioned the same thing. Have you been having any issues with it?

Love the mechanically linked zoom, and the whole camera feels a little quicker and more responsive than the 717, I just couldn't justify the extra $$ for it when I could get a 717 for $650.

The Sony batteries are definitly incredible. It actually hasn't even occured to me yet to get a spare.

First off, I totally agree with the Film+[camera]=win. I have a Cannon AE1 and love it. I will never get away from film, but since I dont have my own dark room right now, I cant do what I want with it.

The digicam is mainly for protfolio. I need to take pictures of the work I do, and be able to send it, print it, burn it, etc. Its just easier. I made sure to get one with manual override though :thumb:

You will start seeing pictures when I can actually RIDE AGAIN!! I havent been on my bike in a week and its KILLING ME!!!! I work alllllll weekend, 15+ hours each day, so looks like no riding :(

If you are getting a small point and shoot to carry on rides, you can't beat the 6MP Casio EX-P600. Circuit City lists it on their website - check to see if they have it in the store before you pick up the G5...

4X Canon Lens
5.9 MP CCD
1/8000th max shutter
3 fps
2" LCD
Nice battery life/quick charging
Full manual mode available
User definable camera modes
Supports conversion lenses and external flash

They aren't full resolution and that was before I switch the camera to fine compression...

G5 is point and shoot also - I know SLRs and DSLRs are better, never said that?

The G5 has full manual override, shutter, aperature, ISO, etc.

Now, to take my thread back.... I am using it at work tomorrow for the first time. Taking pictures of the Fairfax Fair. No one really noteworthy is playing, tonight it was Vertical Horizon in the POURING RAIN, and tomorrow, the only people I know are The Presidents of the United States of America. I'll be taking pictures for my portfolio, and testing out the camera

If I get any good ones, I'll post em up
