I played tourist today. I rarely do that, in fact, this is the first time. It's difficult for me to stop and start so much. I never got into any rhythm today and was paying for it on the second and third climbs.
OMG! A roadbike post...
I rode 50 miles roundtrip from just past Black Hawk, CO (BH) -- a tourist gambling town just west of Golden. Yup, think Coors beer... hey, they make Killians and that's decent stuff. I had heard that bikes were not allowed between Golden and BH and seeing the insane tourist traffic that ends at BH, I can see why. So I parked at the post office just past (north) of BH.
I had planned on doing the BH to Ward (~60miles roundtrip) southern half of the Peak-to-Peak Hwy (~60 miles one way) today, but the weather wasn't cooperating. At mile 25, it started to rain and and temps dropped. Tomorrow I'm planning on doing another segment.
If you're ever in Denver area, the P2P Hwy is a must ride...
A couple miles into the ride...
About five miles after that...
A few miles after that...
Near Rollinsville, Rollins Pass in the distance. It appears a bumpy dirt road goes over the pass. I'll have to explore that on my mtb...
That's it for the P2P scenic hwy.
Driving back from BH to I-70, I saw a road and bike path I wanna ride soon. This road and path connects Hwy 6 out of Golden to the frontage road along I-70 heading west to Loveland Pass -- one of the highest roads in the USA at over 12,000 feet. I've ridden part of the frontage road before, but didn't know how it connected from Golden to Idaho Springs. I jumped out of my jeep to get the first two pics and since the bike path is just that, I pulled my bike off my roof and road a couple miles to check it out.
Facing east towards Golden...
Facing west towards I-70 frontage road...
And the bike path...
That's it for today
