great bike, can be hard finind a hub for them though, on some models, you have to use the edco hub, which isn't the most reliable. Also, you need to run a minimum 40t chain ring. Other than that, great bike, strong, also, it may be heavy, but the weight is pretty low in the frame, so it doesn't feel like a pig. I'd of bout one if it wasn't for the chainring issue.

i have one... love it... this will be it s 3rd season... it s the only frame i haven t broken... corners great and the weight isn t that much of an issue... mine has just undergone a major transformation... out with the old in with the new.

OLD
- 2002 monster t
- hope dh04/m4
- thomson stem
- pro taper bars
- mr. dirt / profile cranks

NEW
- 2005 888 RC
- 05 hope m6's
- marzocchi stem
- truvative holzfeller bars
- e13 guide / holzfeller cranks

main reason was to shed a few pounds... she was 50 - 51lb before... i haven t weighed it with all the new cr@p but i think it ll have to shed at least 4 pounds... that profile axel is heavy, especially considering it is 6 7/8" long (100 mm BB shell)... no the monster T isn t for sale, so stop PMing me :)... last season i put an avy DHS on the bike... it was far and away the best single upgrade i ve made to any bike i ve owned... the bike was ok with the fox, had very little compression damping tho'... sure, the bike doesn t jump as well with the avy, but yeah, it tracks the ground better and overall feels waaayyy faster... with the old fox i could feel the shock bottoming and screaming in pain, with the avy this isn t an issue... if you plan on getting the fox i d definately send it to push....

her she is with her old dress on... it s currently being rebuilt at the moment ( i m waiting on bearings from australia since they were so fvcking expensive here)... i ll post some piccies when shes all built up with the new shiat..

hope that helps

yeah its alotta help. im gonna be running a shiver on it. i was thinking of upgrading the rear to a dhx. good idea? or should i jus get the rc pushed?

a friend of mine had a 204 with a shiver... it rode great... if the frame already has a van RC, i say just spend the 170 or whatever it is and get that shocked pushed... i d bet that would be awesome... thats what i would have done if i didn t drop the $$$ for the avy.. what model year are you thinkin of ??? mines an 01 (black)...

The Tomac is definitely a fun bike. A friend of mine has one with D321s, King, Holzfellers, 02 Boxxer, so pretty much a more race oriented setup, but he loves it. He tried a 5th on it for a while that he borrowed from a friend and said that it handled a lot better all around. Depending on what you're doing that might be something to look into as well.

Go for it. I think that is the 04 but I'm not sure. My friend's is an 03 he says and it is all white with silver swingarm, and I believe that the black one above is an 02.

I think the 03-04 frames were exactly the same. That blue paint looks a lot better in person and is really high quality. I have a 204 set up with a Shiver, Fox and mostly random other parts. Overall, I really like it. It's really stiff with big pivots and hardware. Wide hub and BB. Really simple, proven and beefy design. It is heavy (I have a small and it is probably 14 lbs, maybe more it seems) but the weight is really low in the frame so it's not too bad. The BB is low too.

I might upgrade the shock this winter (DHX? PUSH?) but the Fox works well enough. I rode a Bullit before this bike and had a Fox, 5th and Avy. The fox on that bike seemed to hold me back a lot more and bottom a lot quicker and more harshly. On the Tomac, it feels quite a bit better because of the stiffness and the progressive linkage.

The only things I do not like: gotta run a big ring with a Mr.Dirt to make it work well. You CAN use a ring smaller than 40T but it will wear the guide out faster. Also, the hub is specific to the bike, which is a pain and simply really stupid to do.

Also, two notes on the frame. The bike is fairly steep compared to modern DH bikes. The HA is probably like 68 or something. This is awesome for some things, but sometimes, I wish it were a bit slacker. Also, the sizing is a bit funky. I ride a small 204, which seems like a medium on almost any other DH bike.

For a grand, it's a great deal. I traded a frame/fork and some other stuff for the 204 frame and I am really happy with it.

Yes the bike is dank, i wanted one but got a giant instead. A grand for that is too much, i remember some 1 selling a brand new one with rear wheel and guide for 700.

This bike is sweet. Id trade my giant for one, any one, any one?

I'd hop on it. I did a little bit of research on the 204 when I was hunting for a new frame, but decided to stick to what I had. Try searching in this forum, there were alot of threads with good information, but most of it has been addressed here already. I too would pick up that deal for a grand, it's reasonable, maybe not the hottest, but it would be good enough for me.

I also remember during my searching that there was a rumor about Hadley willing to make a hub for the Tomac. The problem was getting a frame to them. Just food for thought.. isn't Edco out of business or somethin now?

They are great bikes. I bought mine around this time last year. I got it slightly used with similar part for the same price. Most of the weight is down low in the frame so you dont notice it. It corners like it is on rails. I had a MRP chain guide installed with a 38t ring, it made a huge differance. The Fox worked pretty good, but I have heard the bike really comes alive with an Avy.
I am going to try and get mine pushed this year and see how that works.
The Edco hubs arent that big of a deal if you arent to give them some TLC. I ripped mine apart last summer and cleaned it good and regreased it and it is still going stong.
