Quantcast

So I have this Spanish dagger that I think is from the 1700s sometime...

...and I'm trying to figure out who might have made it and when.

It has a common inscription
No me saques sin razon
No me enbaines sin honor

At the root of the tang there's a maker's mark, a hammer and a ring or chain link enclosed in a D shaped raised border.

Various chasing around in search engines has revealed nothing.

maybe reach out to a museum or university that specializes in Spanish history for that era?

also, i'd be curious to hear the story of how this came to be in your possession.

ugh. marks. brings back memories of my first museum job where the faberge collection fell to the american art curator for some reason and as his assistant i had to spend hours looking at, identifying, and recording that kind of stuff.
