i was browsing for toys yesterday, and saw this 71" flat screen tv for a measly S/.256000 (which turns out to be around $75k+ green ones).
the tag also said you can also take it conviniently home for 11000 soles (3500 dollars) a month for 36 months with the easy in store credit.

then, i drove out of the mall, an amg sl65 sped by, the next stop light, an audi s6 (the new v10 ones) sat next to me.... and a kid, along with 2 under-5yo sibblings, was doing rounds next to the s6, then it came to me to ask me for 6 cents doing hand signals about food...

after living all my life, but a few years, here, it had actually never struck me so hard until yesterday. :twitch:
discuss.

doesnt your country suffer from horrible abject poverty and what not? Or is that a myth?

the poverty, yes. people its pretty poor. but the ridiculous gap is just absolutely amazing. never seen anything like that before.

seeing a $75k tv on stock, on the showroom floor of a department store (mind you it wasnt a specialty shop or some obscure place only for people in the know) likely with a few more in the back room...
it wasnt a "special order", or something you see in a catalog that they bring over specially for you or anything.

now that i think about it, they should have put the price in "pounds of cocaine" too.

considering the crap economies and corrupt legal systems in your neck of the woods, its hard to come away with any conclusion other than that those people have simply stolen resources from the poor. I'm no marxist, but something's gotta give.

Are you talking US dollars when you say greenbacks?? Because that's retarded. Even the 102" plasma that sony or panasonic or whatever came out with is *only* 25K US......

it was this one i think.
and oh!, insignificant detail. that gold frame?, that isnt paint. its actually covered in 24k gold.

import tariffs, 19% sales tax, a even heavier luxury tax, markup, etc, etc add up to a lot.

AHA!!! Gold inlays....then yes....That makes sense....It's still retarded, but on a different level now. I want to live in Dubai and drive a solid gold Bentley to my house where my 125" tv is made out of platinum. That would r0x0rZ.
