Blindly running into cactus
Partner and I get a call about a party with underage drinking, "kids" are described to be wearing white t-shirt/blue jeans. We park a few streets out and walk in behind the houses (HUD community aka: projects)
we check out the party, and find nothing illegal going on. we start the walk back to our cars, again, walking behind the houses in the shadows. kid in white t-shirt/blue jeans is walking toward us and immediately changes direction when he sees us. i call out to him to come talk to us, he walks back in our direction. he's visibly nervous as i run his name through records and find that he's 18 and has an outstanding warrant for arrest. partner and i go to cuff him when he pulls away and bolts. my partner, who broke his ankle last year pretty much eliminating his ability to sprint fast, is closest to him and takes off. partner drops the handcuffs that were in his right hand as soon as we start running.
i manage to unholster my taser while running (not an easy feat at all, very stiff holster) and pass my partner. i actually start to gain on the kid after about 50 yards of chasing. the red laser dot from the taser is bouncing from the kid to the woods to the ground to the kid as i try to steady it while running. (it's wet/muddy/raining and has been for the last 3 days) the kid slips and gets up quickly but his falter allows me to get within range and i pull the trigger. kid does an awesome touchdown slide in the mud as his body locks up from the probes hitting him in the left forearm and lower left leg. (5 second burst on initial charge)
my partner comes over and starts wrestling the kid for his hands then realizes that he doesn't have his cuffs. i hand him mine and while the kid is trying to get away he's warned that he will be tased again if he doesn't comply (taser only affects the body during actual application of current and suspects can move/fight when it's not on). the dude won't put his hands behind his back as instructed and continues to wrestle with my partner.

so here's the funny part

my partner yells, "hit him again, i can't get him." now, to me this means, "i'm clear of the suspect and you can hit him again." but, in fact, my partner had his knee up against suspects hip and when i pulled the trigger again i heard the suspect give the usual taser growl but i also heard my partner make the same noise!!! i look at him to see that he's defintely taking a ride on the lightening along with the suspect. he managed to fall backwards sucessfully breaking free of the current. he fell over with a "son of a.....!!!!" he slowly got back in the game and cuffed the suspect, who was much more compliant this time around and did as instructed.
so the assisting units arrive as my partner is hunched over at the waste moaning. i later learn that the tip of his left knee and toe of his right foot were both touching the suspect between the probes so the current went right through his groin!!

needless to say, i've had a blast telling that story at work today to EVERYONE. he's already gotten a sympathy card as a joke from the chief.

the kid told me that he's been pepper sprayed before and that he'd much rather take a taser hit because it only hurts for 5 seconds as opposed to the 45 minute to an hour of burning from pepper spray. he also said that it was the worst 5 seconds of his life. :busted:

**please don't turn this into a taser debate, i'm trying to keep this out of the PAWN forum....just a funny story**

I can't believe the police state, and these jack-booted thugs are tazering poor innocent children!
Kidding, that was totally funny. One of the hazards of the job eh? I've seen people being tazed, but I have to think that getting all that juice in the crotchal region would probably be one of the least fun things a person could experience...

Hint: One more domestic violence "joke" and you get a timeout.

That is all.

That was not a domestic violence joke AT ALL.
It was a joke that if the thread title would have read:
"I tazed my domestic partner...."
Making it sound like Manimal, my friend by the way, who is a big muscular cop with a wife and three kids, was gay it would read even funnier.

That is all.
Well, no its not.
I kid around in alot of my posts, but when I am serious, I am always talking about how much I care for my wife and new child.
As long as I have been on this board, and actually knowing so many people on it that know me personally, they can vouch for it.
I find the above finger wagging insulting and lame.

That's also why I said "or life" in my post, implying that it would be humorous if Manimal (who I also know personally) had titled this thread "So I tazed my life partner..."

Trust me when I say that the only beating Jeremy R does is beating my ass up and down the mountain. :D

A typical mindless response from a stooge of a fascist police state.

A non-lethal alternative (keep in mind that tasers are killing weapons) would have been to call in a civilian crisis counselor to resolve any dispute between the defenseless victim of our socio-economic oligarchy and its quasi-military foot soldier, i.e. the po-po.

The ghey intent of your joke was obvious to me. I hope my sense of humor doesn't erode over the next 4 decades.

it was the delight of my day to be in the assembly room when the 2nd shift team came in for work. everyone had already heard a vague version of what happened but i could barely get through the full version without having to stop several times for uncontrollable laughter from myself and the oncoming patrol team. it's like the cop equivalent of the hair gel scene from there's something about mary

just curious...as a man of the law....arent you not suppose to discuss the events of this guy's arrest? or is that only the case if it goes to trial?

1. do you know who the suspect is?

2. he was arrested on a warrant. the events transpiring to the arrest are irrelevant to his actual case.

3. the events surrounding his arrest are public record.

if this were a homicide case or something ongoing i obviously wouldn't post any details of the case. anything i post in here about cop stories will be nothing more than embellished public record or funny arrest stories, nothing that would sway a court case.

oh man...memories.

everyone laughs nervously until they get their own exposure. then you realize how the pain is infinitely more terrible than you could have imagined and you get a new perception on how long 5 seconds really is.

i wish i was allowed to post my video. i jumped up as soon as the 5 seconds were up and tried to swing at someone. holy hell it hurt. it's like the ghost of bruce lee whoopin' your butt while holding hands with that powder kid in a lightning storm. or...imagine the worst cramp you ever had and imagine it over your entire body x' 10,000.

by the way, there are ZERO deaths that are direct results of the taser. the only deaths are from secondary effects, ie: hitting head on ground, excited delirium. just fyi.

sorry if that came off wrong, i wasn't trying to sound defensive, just answering your question.

yes, we were attempting to arrest him for the warrant WHEN he ran.

and no, the official report says nothing of my partner getting juiced ;)

Cute. You really believe this?

Main article: Excited delirium

Taser and its supporters in the police community regularly attribute the cause of deaths that follow Tasering to "excited delirium", a phenomenon in which agitated or disturbed individuals being apprehended by police respond in an irrational, bizarre and hyperactive manner. Critics argue that as this alleged condition only exists in relationship to being apprehended by police, its existence is dubious.[44] Grame Norton, director of the public safety project of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association argues that "Anytime you see a specific condition being referenced in only one context it raises serious question." Other critics assert that the term is used to mask police brutality. While the term "excited delirium" has been accepted by the National Association of Medical Examiners in the United States it has been rejected by the American Medical Association while the Canadian Medical Association Journal dismisses it as a "pop culture phenomenon".[44] The condition is not recognized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Police psychologist Mike Webster testified at a British Columbia inquiry into Taser deaths that police have been "brainwashed" by Taser International to justify "ridiculously inappropriate" use of the electronic weapon. He called "excited delirium" a "dubious disorder" used by Taser International in its training of police.[45]

again, not wanting to make this another taser debate but my department waited a long time and for a lot of tests to be concluded before opting to issue tasers. specifically this one from wake forest school of medicine:

http://www1.wfubmc.edu/news/NewsArticle.htm?ArticleID=2165

“This study is the first large, independent study of injuries associated with Tasers. It is the first injury epidemiology study to review every Taser deployment and to reliably assess the overall risk and severity of injuries in real world conditions,” said William Bozeman, M.D., the lead investigator and an emergency medicine specialist at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
