Well, this is just undercoat, so it's not the time so much as the bare wood vs painted/ruined conflict potential.

Well, the position I envisage is tacit permission; I have paint, brushes and access and she has not expressly forbidden me to paint it.

Of course it's a dangerous argument as she knows where my bikes are and has access to tools...

Perhaps I need to put a notice on them.

Me too, but (IMO) this is an exception - I'm leaving the other fireplace well alone - looks far too nice (and too old) to paint. But this one? It's kill or cure...

Weeeell.... she liked it! Apparently it makes the room look bigger. Lotsa brownie points for me.

I dropped some subtle hints and discovered the piano should remain it's original colour; so that was a narrow escape.

This reminded me of when the Frau and I were geographically seperated...I was living in Spokane, she was elsewhere getting ready to move there.
