..US arming Sunni insurgents to fight al Qaeda if they SWEAR not to turn around and fight the US military?
We're a like a child who wants to play so badly, we start off with "HO" so our retarded neighbor will play "Horse".

Problem: "We need to think of a way to quell fighting in the middle east, but we don't want to make Arabs hate the USA."

Solution: "I know! Let's invade two Arab countries, one of which poses no threat to the USA! And while we're at it, we will smacktalk a few more of them. That will teach them!"

Problem: "We need to calm this sectarian violence, but we don't want to appear to be taking sides."

Solution: "I know! Let's arm one side! Which one? Hell if I know, anyone got a quarter?"

Problem: "Most Americans don't agree with the war, and want us to bring our soldiers home."

Solution: "I know! Let's send 20,000 more troops over there!"

hey, didn't we do this with the mujahedeen back in the late 1970s so they could fight russia? isn't it highly probable that al qaeda was the offspring of that?

It was more like the 80s. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Al Qaeda and the Mujahedeen the same thing?

It had some part in it. Though the anti-US sentiment came later.

But hey, it's not like you guys make a habit of repeating mishtakes.

Consider yourself corrected.

That's like saying "Buick le Sabre" when you mean "motorized vehicle." It's a big difference, even in a broad brush...think of the confusion if you were trying to make traffic laws.

AQ is a specific organization. Mooj is generic term used by any and everyone to refer to "holy warriors." Sunnis and shiites in the act of killing each other might both think of themselves as mujahideen and the other side as apostates/infidels.

No that was the Taliban..... I think?
No, it was AQ. Bin Laden was our guy in Afghanistan, and funneled foreign fighters and weapons into the country vs. the Russkies. The Taliban was an Afghani movement of religious students which ended up becoming a militant armed faction and took control of the gov't.

Roughly.
