So... Remember the Citizens United decision "wasn't going to change anything?"

Target embarrassed for spending $150,000 on a "pro business" group that is supporting an anti-gay candidate. Oooops.

Just goes to show you that we have the BEST government that Corporate money can buy......

edit: Best Buy also coughed up $100k as well.

Personally don't care about the anti-gay part. I care about the fact that two major corporations can make my $50 or $100 contribution completely worthless by channeling unlimited amounts of money to certain candidates that they want elected to office. Hopefully this will make them think twice before dumping sh!tloads of cash on to whatever candidate promises them the best ROI.

media blackout
what kills me is that the conservative supreme court justices that changed this regulation called it a freedom of speech issue

For conservatives to be concerned with taking the Constitution AS WRITTEN, they sure don't mind it when when an activist court makes up things that aren't there if it suits their goals...

And if Corporations don't have any restriction on the dollar amount that they can give to politicians, why do people? I'd bet that's going to be the next court case on election donations, eliminating that pesky $2,200 limit on campaign contributions...

if you only knew/appreciated how good you have it here....i'm going to assume that you don't travel much.
Ah yes..."we" just can't understand what it's REALLY like.

And out of curiosity, how much travel have you done? (And while in the military does not count. Living on a base is not exactly "immersing yourself in the culture")

pfft... Please, I work for an airline, travel is easy. My point being is how easily and quickly you are to point out someone else acting the "gestapo" and how defensive you get in any taser related thread is more than a little ironic. *paging mmike for alanis morisete*

sure, if "vehemently fights for rights" = "you either support us or you're our enemy" then yes.
Perhaps in this case "vehemently fights for rights" = "vehemently fights for rights that others have guaranteed at birth just because they are "straight" (whatever that means) and should be afforded to all people and if you oppose those rights you essentially oppose all basic civil rights for all people and YOU are a ****ing Nazi Gestapo son of a bitch, go die".

Or something like that.

If you don't support the right of gay people to get married, you don't really support civil rights. Not completely. So when it's boiled down to "yes" or "no", it's totally understandable for the oppressed to feel that non-supporters are the enemy.

ok...here's a question. What is more "important"? The right for gays to marry each other, or the right to bear arms?
Equal. Both should be constitutional rights. You can't pick one right over another.

Gay Rights Gestapo?

At least two issues here. The first being related to the thread title. Corporation donating HUGE to political groups. The second being that Faux News parent company is News Corp. No conflict of interest there.
I'll just quote part of the article.
Unlike the national political parties and federal candidates, the governors’ associations can take in unlimited amounts from corporations, and companies are showing their interest. News Corp., the media company controlled by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rupert Murdoch, gave the RGA $1 million in June. Wellpoint Inc., the biggest U.S. health insurer, contributed a total of $500,000 to the Republican group.

Big Democratic givers for the governors’ races include two Washington-based labor groups, the Service Employees International Union, which donated $1.1 million, and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which contributed $3.3 million.
